Streamlight states that "only" an alkiline battery should be used.
If i were to use an energizer lithium battery would there be any future negative affects? Would the light output increase? Comments appreciated.

Congrats on owning such a great light! (for the $$$).You'll be fine with the lithium primary. Of course you could consider "the Fenix L0D conversion" where you use the clicky switch of the Microstream with the high power LED of the Fenix. Then you could really ramp things up with a 10440 cell.

Even right out of the box, the Microstream is an excellent light.
It will appreciate the opportunity to savor that lithium primary.
If you need cold weather performance and storage, the lithium primary could be the best overall choice, not the cheapest.

I've been using a Lithium primary in my Microstream for a couple of months now and haven't had any problems. Everything appears to be about the same as with Alkalines, except haven't reached end of run-time yet. I unually wind up using mine for a minute or two every day (it's my EDC), and my boss knows whenever she needs a light where to find one [my pocket!].

I've been using my Microstream as a keychain light for over a year with an L92 (lithium) with no negative effects. A runtime was done on the Microstream with an alkaline and Litium battery by a CPF member a while back. The results on alkaline were about 1.5 hours and about 4 hours with the lithium battery.

As a newbie I can offer some small advice only but may be of interest.I run mine on those Instant recharge type, recharge it every month and keep a spare charged in the car.I use it every day for little short bursts of light for work use, never on for more than 5 minutes or so at a time.I have 4 or 5 lights now but this my choice and been used daily for last couple of years.

Very very pleased with it and for under £10 UK pounds postage included from the USA a real bargain.

I also own the larger Streamlight with 2 AAA cells which is on my cycle.

L91 is great for it. That's my first good light. Haven't used in a while since I got the Maratac AAA, but it would still make a great newbie/gift light. Good choice there, mate.
