Hmmmm, I see that your Streamlight 3AA Luxeon is nice and white!

How nice!

Wonder if your was hand picked, or that is an indication of the future of these lights?

My first CMG Reactor had that characteristic "rotten cat urine green" color to its beam; the two I've gotten since then do not. So I don't know if they're handpicked or not. I suspect they are.

Maybe Streamlight handpicked your Tasklight Luxeon specifically to avoid that rotten pee color. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The Brookstone branded Tasklight Luxeon I looked at last week was white also. I have seen postings that seem to run 50-50 white vs cat pee. This is definitely one you must fondle before purchase.

I doubt it - it was sealed in retail packaging direct from the warehouse. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif But you never can tell. Let's hope they're all this quality!

Mine had 2 ohms series resistor. I dropped it to 0.82 ohms, if I remember correctly. And, of course since mine was green, I put a Q3J emitter on the original star pcb. I think I'm going to use a ZLT booster either with a dummy AA, or if one of my buddies can match the threads, I'll have it cut down to 2AA size. The light is just too long!

After removing the reflector, there is a threaded ring with a hexagonal cut in the center, where the LED pokes through. It probably requires a special tool, but I used a pair of long nose pliers as a "spanner wrench" and unscrewed it. While I had it out, I drilled a small 1/16" dimple in it so I could remove it easier next time. Careful with the pliers - don't rip up the star pc board. After the ring is removed, the star just about falls out with wires attached.

Any thoughts or feelings on how this TL Lux compares to a CMG Reactor 3? Assuming the best examples possible of each model?

T.

I got one three days ago. Fantastic light all the way round.
Now my old LED lights will see much less use. This is the brightest and whitest beam of any of my lights so far - lights up the whole back yard. I don't know what the runtime will be, but I tried it with "dead" AAs, and the beam was not noticeably dimmer.

Anyone know if this light will run using lithium AA cells, or is that inadvisable due to excessive "fryage" potential?

Greg at Brightguy called Streamlight (I asked) and they advised that usage of Lithiums in any Task Light other than the 1L and 2L would void the warranty.

I have NO earthly idea how SL could know that if you fried one.

I would love someone to try it on their nickel. Heck, may just do it myself.

The 3aa has become my favorite dog-walking light, talk about an excellent throw for a led. Can't wait to see a 123 version, and all at Streamlight prices.
