Hi guys,

When doing my weekly canoe trips on the beautiful waters of the inner town of my hometown here in Ghent, Belgium I became intrugued about the reflections of the water that my little Black Diamond storm headlight is giving.

As being a filmmaker I want to film this. Yet I guess the 100 lumen of my headlight will be not enough.

I look for something stronger:
- at least rain- or snow-proof
- as strong as possible (1500 lumen+ ?)
- color temperature wise it should at least be consistent the same all over its throw
- it would be a great plus if the throw would be evenly spread yet not diffused to get sharp lines in the reflections.
- rechargeable

I was already checking the led lenser X21R offerings but my guts and some read-ups on this forum tell me there is much better on the market for a similar price or less.

What do you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Otto

Are you hoping to take pictures of the dappled reflections on things? Photographically, this requires a flash. For video, it takes BIG light. A few thousand lumen in a fairly small source.

Do you have a budget?

There are a variety of lights that could work.

If you want the beam to project FAR, you look at the LUX or cd number, not lumens.

If you want to know the overall total out put, you look at the lumens.

For the effect you are trying to achieve, would it best be accomplished with a long beam (LED's can throw ~ a kilometer now a days...), or by a flood of light?

To my mind, I imagine the kind of reflections the moon casts when low on the horizon...a long shimmering light path....requiring lux not lumens per se to achieve.

If going for a flood of light, to make a wide area shimmer instead...then lumen output becomes more on an issue, as it takes a lot more power to flood an area with light.
