Im about to have one built and i can't decide on BB400 or BB500? i like guilt-free operation so i was originally thinking BB400 but i keep seeing the BB500 being suggested or best for 1x123. what are the runtimes like on each for a 1x123 light? my main concern for brightness is that it be brighter than the stock E1e/mn01.

Also, does any one have experience using a PR-T head in conjuction with a Z57 clickie tailcap? the reason i ask is because back when i had my SF L4, i tried the head out on my E1e with the Z57 and was kinda quirky about flickering or pulsating. it was probably just due to the combination of having a high vF 5w in the L4 head and resistance in the Z57 tailcap??? or am i way off-base here? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

With a properly functioning Z57, you will have no problem. I leave it to others to aid you in your 400 VS 500 quandry! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

if you are using two stage switch, i suggest go with the BB500. BB400 is not exactly 400 mA, lower but close to that. So if you really thinking about putting in excess of 400 mA, you should go to 500 mA to begin with, bec BB500 is not really 500 mA. Also, because you already have access to lower output (2 stage switch), why not go the highest as you can afford on the HIGH? you can run it guilt free when you run it in low mode, right?

OR if you still haven't made up your mind yet, take the middle road, 450 mA /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

do you mean my z57 can be easily converted to a 2-stage or do you mean that i can just buy a 2-stage switch?

450? for real? which converter is that?

im thinking i'll probably just go with 500 since im sure the bug will catch me down the road for the 2 stage. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

4x4, I too would like to know what resistor combo to use for 450 mA! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif If the resistors and other components were right on the money, your output on the 400 would be 417 mA and the 500 would be 500 on the nose. I would not be surprised if you didn't have a 10 to even 20% variation from this in reality.

The Z57 can be converted into a 2 stage switch and since you are on a budget, I just might have a "gift" for you if I end up making the PR-T for you. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nana.gif Especially if you go for the 500 mA. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleye11.gif

EDIT: Please understand that the clickie function is lost in a conversion but my "gift" would leave you with your Z57 in tact and always available...............
