Sorry for asking but I might have missed that part... What was the price range on this light again?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

As a newbie who has not been around long enough to know of the two earlier SF's (I'm sure there are few of us out there), I'm wondering what the runtime and brightness is like, and what is it running in there Lux III? V?

But damn that's a nice light even just looking at it!

So PM sent.

Is the Flashlightlens 32.0mm B270® the correct lens for the SF2s & 3s?
Seems like it will fit. Need to make sure before I order some backups.

I like the look of it. Looks like a handgrenade or like those bombs they drop from airplanes! Maybe a different shaped head for the next evolution?

The lens is 35.1mm X 1.5mm in size. Unfortunetly, they are on backorder like everything else I've ordered this year ...

Lambda,
Thanks for the info.--- 35.1mm.
Ya, know how that BO goes./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif If you should get some in please PM me or post so we know we can get some.
Thanks,

I just today got the SF-3 I bought from Arcmania (Thanks Mike for such a great flashlight) and had to test the bare single 1600ma 17670 LiIon I´m used to run instead of the typical 2 123 Lithiums in flashlights like the SF L4.

Mike did confirm that PILA LiIons with their protection do work fine so my interest was quite high to see how things would do without the discharge protection using bare cells.

Congrats to Mike - the SF-3 is perfectly capable to protect bare LiIons from too low discharge - when the light was very visibly fallen out of any regulation and was just barely glowing removing the cell showed 2.8V unloaded voltage which is perfectly fine inside the safe range for those cells.

It seems that the combination of a highly efficient buck converter with an extremely low voltage drop diode and the use of very select lowest Vf high brightness LuxIIIs is the key for this pretty amazing behaviour.

You get the best of both worlds so-to-say, good regulation until the Vin of the single LiIon drops below Vf which is pretty late due to the low Vf of the LEDs used and "automatic" discharge protection by the LEDs own characteristic as it won´t take much current below 3V.

I got almost two hours of guilt-free Lumens and the SF-3 really is a very bright and long-throwing flashligth of the finest quality - can´t wait until it gets dark here.

Thanks again Mike for an amazing product

Hi Klaus,

I live in the US. Do you know where I could buy the cell you are discussing(17670 LiIon), and a charger for it?

Thanks for any help.

Sorry I can´t be of much help here, I got my cells through asian manufacturers I´m doing businesss with in other areas and who sent me the occasional friendly sample, the chargers I´m using are a modded Canon Elph Digi-Cam charger and a DIY charger kit based on the LTC4054 chip. These are described elsewhere on CPF already. If you are not too much into electronics I can highly recommend the PILA LiIon cells avaiable from CPF member JonSidney HERE - those do have protection circuit integrated and are much safer to use.

Klaus
