Surefire A2 bulb life ?

since the A2 is regulated, how long will the bulb last ?

I do not know the answer, but Surefire must think it is quite a while since they don't even offer the MA02 replacement bulb on their website.

Not being on their website is no indication of anything. There are hundreds of products not on their site.

The MA02 should be available through SureFire 800 828 8809 and from your friendly Dealer.

Rated life - I guess about 25-30 hours like the others. I've personally lost count of how many SF123A pairs I've used in my A2. I think it's about 45 and the lamp is fine.

Surefire does claim improved bulb life because of the regulated power, but I didn't see any specifics on how much improvement.

"The digital current regulation circuitry also extends the life of the incandescent lamp by allowing for a "soft start" instead of subjecting the tungsten filament to the potentially damaging voltage spike that occurs when turning on an unregulated light."

From what I understand (please note I do not understand much /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) the lamp is slightly over driven to achieve a little higher color temp. This would normally shorten the lamp life however I also understand as FlashlightOCD pointed out it has a soft start which should make up for it being over driven. But like I said that is only my understanding and I could be way off base. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I too have put at least 4 boxes (48) in my A2 and it's till going strong

I stopped counting the sets through it a while before I was sent the L4 for evaluation. Since then I've been using the A2 not quite as much - perhaps a set a week compared to 2-3 sets in the L4. I eat SF123As.

I've said this so many times now, it's not even funny anymore, but I'll say it again. USE YOUR LIGHTS. I get so bewildered when I hear people purchasing these high-end lights, then are afraid to use them. Don't worrry about the LA. Use it until it stops working, then put a new one in. Worried about using too many 123-cells.... then you shouldn't have purchased a light that uses them. Come on guys, use your lights.

Amen brother Nascar! People, you paid good money for great lights, and they are backed by great technical support some coming direct from the designer (which is rare and only found with Paul Kim and Peter Gransee) so use yer dang lights.

i dont worry to use my lights, i bought them for use.

the knowledge about the average bulb-life can be very usefull.
its like the runtime of the light, it is very usefull to know about it.
what would you do if you would not know the runtime of a light ? carry always a dozen of sf123 with you, although you know you will use your light maybe 20 minutes ?


this is especially important on pocketable personal flashlights like the A2/E2.
i can't carry one or more bulbs/lamp assemblys in my pockets.
