Surefire A2 - rcr123

I have quite a few original A2 models, and yes, RCR123A will work just fine, as long as your regulation circuit is in good working order. I am not certain so don’t hold me to it, but I believe the A2 incandescent lamp is not actually a 6 volt lamp. Kinda like a P91 isn’t a true 9V lamp. They were manufactured with voltage sag or drop to function as designed.
But the regulation circuit in the A2 will allow for 2 x 3.7V. I’ve done this many times.
But as always, your mileage may vary…

Each primary CR123A has voltage of 2.5 volt when load is about 1.2 Amps and each primary CR123A has voltage of 2.2 volt when load is about 2.4 Amps.
A2 incandescent bulb is regulated to 4 volt and any voltage under that won't work because each primary cell under 2 volt considered depleted.
So P60 is 5 volt, P61 is 4.4 volt, P90 is 7.5 volt, P91 is 6.6 volt, incand bulb of A2 is 4 volt and ...

It's not quite the same as the p91, which is actually a 6.6v lamp. The ma-02 is a 4v lamp. That's how much voltage the regulation circuit sends to the lamp. Max for the regulation circuit is 9v. So yes 2 RCR will work. But. That's putting 8.4v on fresh cells directly to the leds. Which are meant for around 6 V. And you will burn them out prematurely. How soon? Who knows. I use LFP cells for that reason

Use the Surefire brand rechargeables. Their lower voltage is easier on the LEDs.

I just wanted to add for folks who are running a Koala Onion Ring or Calipsoii LED ring and using 16340s, I just got four of the Vapcell T9s from Illumn, and they are a real smooth fit, even in my square-body. Some of the older T8s I have are iffy.
