I found the following here http://medfmt.8k.com/bronbattery.html

Well, I buy them bulk, as I happen to use them in both my N90s as well as all my flashlights. Luckily, the flashlight manufacturer has a great deal on them right now - 48 batteries for $120 - just $2.50 each! These are Varta batteries by the way, and seem to last a good long time. Anyway, the URL is:

http://www.surefire.com/

This would be consistent with the information here:

Vartas have 1450 mAh and Rayovac owns Varta. It also adds fuel to the speculation that Rayovacs and/or Vartas are the same as or similar to Surefires.

$2.50 per is still a bit steep for me and alot of others. why not just buy DL223's? if you dont HAVE TO HAVE the 10yr shelf life then get the DL223's from Cheapbatteries.com and they end up costing between $0.50-$1.00 per 123. an M6 will eat up $3.00 in batteries as opposed to $15.00 at you price.

What interested me was not the $2.50 price, but rather the assertion that Surefire's CR123s are Vartas. Lot's of people think the Surefire's are better than most 123s and would be interested to know who makes them for Surefire and if there is a "generic" version of the exact same battery.

I'm to lazy to take apart 223s. I'm not a heavy enough "user" to need to do that yet

I'll probably just buy 123s in bult from Texas Tactical Supply or www.cheapbatteries.com
