Re: Bezel Down Carry Options

Bill,

You changed the subject title??!? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif No Worries, I changed it yet again which will confuse even more folks. He He..

To answeer your question, I think, the clickie power pack can also be side drilled and tapped in the same manner that the twist pack is shown above. I was about to do this last night for this line up but ran out of steam. There is ample wall thickness in the battery tube for enough threads. I'll try to get to one later today and provide a shot along with a better picture showing the nut on the E pocket clip example.

Re: Bezel Down Carry Options

Man, I'd like to be able to shut off the "subject change" feature. Please don't change the subject of a thread for personal reasons. The subject should remain relevant to the thread, no an individual post. Thanks!

The direct mounts are sexy, but not quite as user-installable, eh? Just like all vehicles should come with standard rack mounting points, so should lights come with a standard "carry" point. Wouldn't THAT make it nice? But then nobody would agree on what/where/how, and around and around we'd go - eventually coming back to Don to fix it for us. ;-)

Re: Bezel Down Carry Options

Don and Darell, I did not change subject title, just added my post to your thread. I noticed change right after I posted question. Thanks, Don for info. Bill

Re: Bezel Down Carry Options

First,

Here's a shot of the tab mounted on an Arc with clickie as well as a better angle on the E series pocket clip mount:

An interference can be induced between the tab and clip by building up the head of the tab or even a couple of strips of tape in the channel of the clip. This interference allows rotation of the clip to light but provides enough friction that impedes free rotation. In the case of the Arc LS for instance, this allows for a hands free light source with the light clipped on say the bill of a hat, head band or belt or strap..... You get the idea.

Tylerdurden,

I don't want to be longwinded in response to your question and the short answer is only brass at this time. The long answer is that plastic is likely the ideal material but in some tests I did the threads in plastic just weren't strong enough. A molded collar with tab in plastic would be great but expensive and very application specific. I then considered Al but felt that the silver of raw Al didn't go well with some of the potential colors the tab would be hosted on. I could have the tabs anodized at an additional cost but again, what color to pick? I also had the material of the collar to consider and figured that brass allowed to tarnish would be as good as a mismatched natural HA on a HA-N body and yet would still look OK on Black. Anyway, there was no magic bullet here and I figured that brass was as good as any in terms of material and maybe has a better set of options in terms of finish. If it turns out I really need black, I can always have some of the parts black oxidized. Folks can choose to go for a bright polish (DIY), satin or oxidized green/ brown. A trick I learned while in the boating industry is a combination of salt water and uric (sp) acid will quickly oxidize and tarnish brass; yup pee in a cup & add salt water. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Bezel Down Carry Options

Don, do u have any clips that can be mounted where that tab is mounted on the ARC?

Re: Bezel Down Carry Options

Damn, ya let Don loose with the drill press and tap, and nothing is safe! Show of hands: Who else would take a collection of lights like these and start punching holes in them for the sake of science?

Don is my hero.

Are you going to be offering this as an optional finish? Of course, you'd have to come up with a neat acronym for it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Bezel Down Carry Options

Have you tried a nylon tipped set screw for securing the collars to the battery tubes? That might eliminate some of the damage.

Re: SureFire E-Series

That is exactly what I am looking for - "e1e" bezel face down.

I am new to the group, so I am not familiar with the protocol for purchasing something like this. How do I order?

Thanks,

Chuck

Re: SureFire E-Series

I'm sure Don will put a notice here and in the B/S/T forum telling us how to order. Just keep checking /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: SureFire E-Series

I have received the brass tabs already and also approved first article on the collars. I would expect the full package to be avilable by the end of the month or early next month.

Re: Bezel Down Carry Options

I gave the long spiel in another thread but the short answer is no; brass only for now.
