Out of curiosity, approximately how many are?

How many are what?

I don't doubt all those proto-types are locked away in a SureFire vault along with hundreds, if not thousands of other proto-types from years gone by.

Sorry, I wasn't being clear. How many "are" as in, how many are in existence? Not that I'm expecting you to know Al but I guess my biggest curiosity is how many are owned by individuals outside of Surefire or are these untouchables? :mecry:

Yeah the 6BL myself and another member here has it. posted pics in the rare surefire thread. I lucked out and found mine via internet and called the store. They had a display model. 6BL ight and ASP baton for only $60.


I would prefer a 3BL instead but cant complain. Goes with my ASP triad/baton combo. So i have two batons with lights.

So what exactly was the M2D supposed to have been?

And why didn't it see release in a form optimized for an existing lamp assembly or something?

The A2 was but one of the "Digitally Regulated" incandescent lights. SureFire were thinking about rolling out the technology to the C2, M2 (shock isolated), M3 and M3T.
There were to be three lamps for each. Standard output, high output and super high output. Two-stage push button pressure switches too.

SureFire recognised that LEDs were the future and diverted pretty much all new product development resources from incandescents into this new LED technology. The A2 was the only model to make it to production due to it's unique ability to have a choice of LED colours as well as the main beam.

The two-stage switching uses a electro-mechanical sensing system that is very sensitive to resistance so special contact surfaces are required so dedicated new models were necessary.
