Been looking at upgrading my Surefire Fury (the 500 lumens version) to the duel fuel 1,500, so I had a browse on youtube. There seems to have been issue with LED burnout with some folks sending it back several times. Cant work out whether this is the 'intellibeam' version, the standard version or both. or is there a problem at all? Anybody here had any issues?
 
The Intellibeam is a fail IMO...only the user should have control of the brightness.

I had my Fury bored and modded with a SBT-90.2...no longer dual-fuel but I haven't used CR123s as primaries in 15+yrs.

Unless you want a new light, maybe have a modder change the driver/LED and run a 16650 cell.

I know nothing myself, but sounds as if you're read the same sad, sad stories I have, and I would personally also not even consider buying one until I had the answer to the question you're posing. I don't recall reading any 'good news' about it so far, and most of the news I have read was bad. Hopefully they have 'fixed' the product????
 
I had the Intellibeam and was not happy with it in the long term. The automatic dimming feature is really more of a gimmick, plus the regulation on the new Fury's is also not great. I ended up selling it. The classic 500lm Fury's are great and will run perfectly on a single 16650 at full brightness. I still got 3 of those.

You can always try a Malkoff MD2, but aside from taking 18650s its essentially the same as your old Fury, except with less throw. You could also look at Armytek. I have the Predator Pro v3 and I like mine.
 
I have a couple of 15/500 Fury(s) and a 15/1000 Fury. I would love to use 16650 in my 15/500. What battery would be best and how does the 16650 affect run time?

I just started using 16650s in one of my lights, so I have little experience, but so far so good. Others with more experience can speak to 'run time' observations. I'm also not familiar with the Fury lights, or their current requirements / draw.

I do have some fairly fresh data you might be interested in though. The market appears to be fairly limited in this size, so you may well end up using these. When I wanted to see how they'd work, I did this:

I've used the same Keeppower protected 16650 in my Fury (5/500 lumen) The base cell is a 4.35V cell but Keeppower's protection circuit doesn't let the cell charge past 4.26V. I didn't do a dedicated runtime test but real-world use 2xCR123s have maybe a 10min edge in overall runtime. The 16650 is best bang for the buck in the long run if you use the light often. If the light is mostly in storage and not used often, stick with the CR123s.
 
Old Fury also burn out, but much less often. Sent it for repair, they replaced the LED, it works without problems. Launched it to 16650, it works very well at full brightness, tried it on an unprotected battery - it can discharge it below 3 volts, but this is easy to recognize - when the battery is close to 3 V, it does not turn on the weak mode, but constantly turns on the strong one. But this should be checked on several more copies of the flashlights

Keeppower are very good. I also have Eagletac 16650, very reliable, working since 2017

You can also look for the Peacekeeper P1R, they are rare now, but sometimes you come across them, the same as the Fury, but it works from 18650

I sent 3x Fury DFTs back for burnt out LEDs, the longest one lasted was 4 months, the shortest was 1 week. In the end I told them to send me the EDC2-DFT instead which I haven't had any issues with.
 
Personally I only heared that the Fury DFT models have more or less problems with fried LEDs. For this reason I do not own the Fury DFT Intellibeam version.

But I own a few "regular" Furys (P2X and P3X) and the Furys with Intellibeam (P2X-IB and P3X-IB). This lights work perfect for me.
Until I read this thread I did not even know that the LED problem was affecting this Furys. I only read about LED problems of the Fury DFT models....
 
I have a non intellibeam Fury where the LED blew out. I will be sending it in for repair this coming week. Burnt out emitters in lights that easily cost $200 is unacceptable.

I hear ya. Burned out LEDs is not something I recall reading about too often with decent flashlights (during the years we've been reading here). This failure rate seems rather high, just seat of the pants. Someone must have made a rather fundamental design error, which was then obviously compounded by failing to catch it in 'test'. Definitely not befitting of their fine reputation. I'm sure a lesson's been learned, and hope they avoid such things going forward. Hope they fix yours up for you.
 
Got a soft spot for Surefire and I like to buy USA, but I'll pass on the Fury this time.
 
The 500 lumen Furies are still outstanding. It just bugs me that this $200 LED light burnt out the emitter without hard use. I have 4 Furies. One is bad but the other 3 are spot on. I like the long 3 cell version the most. I sure hope SF fixes my light and does not give me a "there is nothing we can do" answer. Will find out soon enough.
 
I had two different Fury's that failed to me.
The led burnt and I send it back to Surefire and took them 6 months to replace them both, the customer representative told me in an email that they changed the LED and this should work fine now, but I don´t trust them anymore so I end it selling both for dirt cheap...more happy with my Modlites PLHV2´s...
 
Not to hijack your thread.... but my comments in this other one have similar issues with their other lights. They don't honor their warranty and customer support is outright rude.

Just like to get it out there that this doesn't seem to be specific to just one model.

My takeaway from the experience is to stay far away from purchasing anything SureFire unless you want to pay quadruple the price and take a gamble when it breaks if they even honor their supposed warranty.

Surefire KM3 Repair

Hi everyone I am a long time lurker and collector. I have a KM3 light that I bought and it has this flickering issue. Has anyone ever taken one apart and found what causes the flickering?
