My buddy who works for a local PD has a Surefire weapon light on his Glock it's not the X200 or the X300 it's older. The head screws off and you can change of the bulb, he has a P60 bulb we tried to use a P60L and it wold not work. I can't figure out why it won't work? Any thoughts and what style weapon light is it?

I've heard that the polarity is backwards on these older P60 weaponlights.

It's probably either the nitrolon series or the military series (aluminum-body)

The P-Series Nitrolon (polymer) body handgun WeaponLights will not power the P60L because, as mentioned, the batteries have to be installed 'the wrong way round'.

Is this the WeaponLight your friend has?

If the batteries are 'in-line' like a flashlight then it's an older, Classic WeaponLight. In this case, a few photos would be useful in order better explore what's happening. Perhaps replacing the shock isolated bezel with a standard bezel from a 6P will help?

He has the top one pictured above. The batteries were facing positive forward when we tried the 6PL bulb. Do we have to face the batteries backwards for the 6PL bulb to work? Thanks for the picture Al.

I'm not sure that's possible, but if it is, I would like to know, and if you could share some photos of the batteries in that configuration I'd really like to see them please.

Ok I'll see if I can get some photos. Will putting the batteries backwards mess the weapon light up?

I don't see how - the incandescent P60 doesn't care about polarity.
However, if the body is designed for the batteries to be installed in only one orientation, forcing the batteries in the 'wrong' way could damage something.

Alright I don't want to mess up his work light. Has anyone ever installed the 6PL bulb in the P-Series Nitrolon weapon light?

It looks like the battery compartment design and battery contact are so-designed as to prevent batteries from being installed the wrong way round.

I have to admit I did not try to do it so I don't know whether it'll work or not.

I don't think I'll try that route either. I just don't understand why the 6PL bulb won't work.
