What does a stock KL1 put out current wise to the luxeon? Also how do you remove the bottom side of the head. where it meets the battery. I have figured out the top half.

IIRC it puts out about 350 ma. read it somewhere, the second question I don't know.

BullPar,

I'm going to assume that you taken the bezel ring loose and that is what you mean by the top half that you've figured out. Now, if you desolder the LED, you'll be able to remove the LED and its sink. You'll need to do this before separating the head at its second stage. You'll notice that there is a seam just above the second cooling fin. The head also separates here. This give access to the circuit board. There will be one solder joint in the center. This goes to the + battery contact. There are also two large solder joints on opposite sides of the circuit. These go to the - battery contact ring. Desolder those and the whole thing will fall apart.

Quite frankly, you're very lucky that the head didn't separate at the second stage when you were figuring out the first stage. It's not uncommon for the head to separate at the center rather than the bezel ring first. If you twist it too much, then you could tear out wires or rip off the toroid.

Since you've gotten this far, you might as well replace that low dome with a high dome. You'll love yourself for it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
