Surefire L1 optics

The surefire 2003 catalog says the L1 uses a "custom desgined lens." It looks like a NX-05 to me in the picture. Is it actually a custom optic?

It *is* a NX05 which is custom designed for the Luxeons. I would expect the verbage is written for the majority of folks who wouldn't know a NX05 from a F-15. Probably the distinction is against a reflector which is more typical of flashlights.

Looks like a NX05 optic to me too. It isn't a "lens" the way most people think of lenses, but an acrylic optic that uses refraction and total internal reflection to shape the Luxeon's beam. And that is covered by a pyrex window to help protect the relatively soft acrylic optic from scratches.

That's what I figured, it was just that the wording made it sound like whatever optic they are using was specially designed specifically for the L1.
