Hey everyone, my flashlight hobby began 2 weeks ago at Costco when I bought the 2 pack of Dorcy Spyders for $26 (2x123 Xenon "tactical" flashlights). I was pretty impressed with the brightness of the Dorcys for the price, very bright. They advertise 120 lumens, although I assumed this must be an inflated number, but since I don't have a feel for what 1 "lumen" actually looks like, it was just a feeling /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyhow, I was hooked. I completely geeked out on CPF for the last 2 weeks and decided I had to have more good stuff. So, Dan at TW fixed me up with an L4 and a G2 (thanks Dan, pleasure doing business with you).

I got the L4 and G2 today.

At first, I was somewhat disappointed with the seemingly wimpy light of the L4 in daylight in my office. This was squelched when I felt the need to flash it in my eyes. Ok, I'm stupid, but it only took once!

The beam quality of the L4 is beautiful, very smooth, very flooding. Especially compared to the Dorcy (duh).

Now that it's dark, I thought I'd have a little more fun. I suited up the L4, G2 and Dorcy and shined 'em against my big white wall in the living room. The L4 has a very white, almost blue color, which makes the G2 and Dorcy look very yellow in comparison (I thought the Dorcy was really white until tonight).

The light output for the G2 and Dorcy is roughly equivalent. The beam quality of the G2 is superb compared to the (focusable) Dorcy. Although, to be fair, the Dorcy is half the price of the already cheap G2 (G2: $25, Dorcy: $13).

If anyone wants beamshots, I'll try to get something for you. This review might suck because I'm new here but I'm learning. Thanks for reading. I think I'll like the L4 once I get used to the white light.

Nice report and nice animal collection. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The G2/Spyder will make a brighter spot on the wall than the L4 because their beams are narrower, but total light output should be comparable. A reasonable way to compare is bounce the light off a white ceiling in a dark room, and see how brightly the room is lit up by the reflected light.

kinzli-nice going. There is no turning back! Also- very cool Rat you have. Bet it sounds boss.

Thanks guys for the kind words and thoughts.

Atomic, yes, the rat is mighty noisy, the neighbors aren't too keen on late night cruises, but hey, I don't take it out all *that* often /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
