Surefire L5 Lumamax/Cree R2 compatability?

I've been considering modding my L5 with a brighter LED and a different driver. I have two new Cree R2 emitters from Cutter, and some Q5's too. Would they work well with the reflector in this light? It's pretty deep. I've gleaned from this site that the Cree's like a deep reflector.

Would something else be better? Like a Seoul?

I've modded an L7 with a Cree q4 and GD500 driver board. To focus, the Cree LED needs to be raised quite far until it's actually touching the reflector and soldered from underneath. The Seoul SSC mod would be much easier since the LED only has to be raised a very small amount. SSC is easier to solder too.

I'm not sure what kind of driver the L5 has but I would guess that it's a boost driver for a Luxeon V on 2xcr123. This means you would also have to change the driverboard to a buck driver. I think the SOB from the Shoppe would work.

The resulting beam is very tightly focused.
