Surefire LX2 replacement

I sold my LX2 long ago expecting the LX2 Ultra release, which never happened. I've been using the Fury but it's too bulky, and I dislike the Low-High interface.


Requirements:

-Slim, LX2 sized light
-pocket clip
-equal or greater throw than LX2
-Max brightness immediately accessible
-at least one lower mode
-li-ion ability would be a plus


I'm considering the E2DL Ultra, but would have to remove the aggressive cranulations and change to a slimmer tailcap. I'm open to any suggestions from other manufacturers.

I havent had a chance to play with the LX2. What about the EB1? Scout24 has one and it throws really well. If you get the tactical version it has a LX2 like tailcap. It is half press for low and full press for high. It only works on the EB1 though. Not compatible with other E-series lights. It can take Li-ion. And you can put the head on another body with normal E-series tailcap and get a normal E1B style interface. High then low.

So the EB1 head can be run with 2xCR123 and 1x17670? Do the EB1 and E2DL Ultra throw further/brighter overall compared to the LX2?

Any other slim lights with a lot of throw like the LX2? Perhaps the Eagletac D25LC2?

According to Robin, the LX2U was cancelled because it will be replaced by the EB2 as part of the move to consolidate the Lumamax line into the Backup line. To further answer your question, no you cannot run an EB1 head on 2xCR123, and a single LFP is the only rechargeable that it's rated for.

The Surefire LX2's have at least 240 real OTF lumens and 9.8K lux or so. The driver does about 1A to the LED.
I hear the EB1 with an XPE generate 13K plus lux and I can almost guarantee you over 200 real OTF lumens.

What I would suggest is to get a EB1 tactical and replace the XPE with a new generation XPE2 and you would get a healthy increase in both lumens and lux. I wouldnt be surprised if you saw 15K lux out of that liltle light.

Dont forget that you can lego your E-series parts and get great improvements.
A Surefire L1 XR-E TIR bezel has no drivers and will go in direct drive when used with any other body outside of the factory L1 body.

Here I have a LX2 body with L1 XR-E stock bezel. Just put unprotected 17670 cell which I wouldnt recommend. I am waiting for 16650 cells from overseas that I hope can support more current. Currently; I only get 1.6A at the tailcap. A better cell would hit 2A. Still, I know I am over 300 OTF and 12~13K lux while still keeping the 2 mode LX2 interface.

The Surefire LX2 with Aleph Mule bezel. The two mode works great with low in 5 or less lumens. This combo is exact lengh as stock L1

I currently own and EDC a Surefire LX2. I was looking forward to the LX2U, but it never materialized, and now I look forward to the EB2 instead. I hope it has better regulation than the EB1. Until the EB2 comes out, the following goes for my LX2:

It doesn't hurt that the LX2 can be found for ~$160, while the ED2L Ultra is $230-260, and many of the SF Lego suggestions here might run over $200.

The LX2 interface is second to none. If I could have a Fury with that interface, I'd be happy as a clam.

Street price of E2D Ultra seems around $185. I'd look around and decide if you want more lumens or better UI (Ultra or LX2).
