Hello Gentalmen

I have a question and was hoping that someone could help me out....

I was wondering could I mount an m6 on a weapon.... I would much rather do this than buy a light for that specific use...... this way I would still be able to use the m6 for everyday use,,,,,,, I would like for it to have more than one function........ is this possible or am I getting a bit greedy.......... The only problem I can see is the duriblility of the bulb....... if this is so couldn't I just get a bulb that is used on the weapon mounted lights..... I don't know if this matters but I wanted to use it on an Bushmaster M_4

Thanks

Manuel

Hi Manuel,

I can answer part of your question--the M6's bezel/head contains shock protection for the lamp assembly. So as far as I know, the durability of the bulb should be good.

As to mounting it on a weapon, Al or one of the other SureFire gurus would be able to answer that.

Yes, mounts are available for the M6 to be mounted for use as a weapons light on a rifle or shotgun.

If you are concerned about the lamp/bulb taking a direct hit, you can at added expense get a custom made lexan lens just like lexan ballastic face shields with a Level IIIA ballistic rating.

Welcome to CPF Manuel!

The M6 is the handheld version of the M5xxB WeaponLight and uses the same MN20/MN21 Lamp Assembles, Shock Isolated TurboHead Bezel and Battery Carrier.

The M500B is a dedicated forend WeaponLight that replaces the factory handguards with ones that feature inbuilt switching and a housing into which the LM20 Lamp Module screws. The WeaponLight also features "navigation" LEDs.

The M6 can be attached by whatever means to a weapon such as a carbine - I guess how reliable it is depends on the nature of the mount and whether it increases the recoil on the lamp.

I'm not sure how one would attach such a large diameter flashlight to a weapon - perhaps with metal straps to a railmount of some sort onto a Picatinny rail. Switching wouldn't be ideal though.

It seems to me that you'd be better off with an M98 Series WeaponLight which would be 350Lu/20min, or just getting a dedicated forend like the M500B, and keeping your M6 for use as a dedicated handheld light.

A rifle mounted light should be permanently attached to the weapon IMO, especially if you intend to use it as a defense tool. The M500B is what you'd want for that M4, it's got the shorty handguard. It's ideal in that switching is accomplished by squeezing the switch along the handguard in a momentary on fashion. I'd stay away from home brew solutions that require you to leave the light on or force you to contort your grip on the weapon to switch the light on or off. With the 500B, you grip the handguard no differently than when you are holding the rifle in a ready position. The M500B is not cheap (probably cost more than half that what you paid for the Bushmaster) but for its intended use it is worth it.

Al, shelby's photo's are some of the best around. what's he take them with?

If you had watched S.W.A.T. you would have noticed the M500B lights mounted on their M4s. Exactly like the ones that Al posted.

I believe he uses a camera /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I guess that was taken with a Sony F707 or whatever ever it was. He now has a very impressive camera although I don't recall its make or model.

sorry to barge in on your thread manny26. i didnt want to start another topic with the same title.

i wanted to ask you or anyone that owns a Surefire M6 if they have ever tested it for its waterproofness. like going diving with it or just having it submerged in water while turning the lights on and off by twisting the tailcap and pushing the tailcap's button.

Shelby, are those excellent pic's on PK's site taken with a digital or conventional camera converted to digital?
