SureFire Pocket Clip lengths?

I know that SureFire makes both short and long pocket clips, but I am wondering if they make, or have made in the past, different versions of the long clip? The reason I ask is that I have a first generation, 4-square sided A2 that came with a short clip. I bought a long clip for it a couple of years ago and never used it because it rested on the "hump" of the A2's body rather than on the flat.

Recently I have seen pictures here of second generation A2 lights that have the 4-square sides and a long clip that rides on the flat of the body. In this thread from 2006, Size 15's has posted a picture that shows what my light looks like with the long clip (black A2, middle light) while the purple light shows the clip resting on the flat. Anyone have any thoughts as to how/where I can get a clip to rest on the flat of the body? Thanks!

I think what you are seeing has much more to do with the bend in the clip rather than its length.

For example, look again at Size 15's post and notice the difference. The purple A2 has a more pronounced bend causing the curve to lie in the flat area of the body. The black one, whose clip appears to have seen some hard use, is much straighter.

If it is important, you can probably use some padded pliers to tune the bend in your clip.

I guess there has been some variation and experimentation...

I don't have very many useful photos online though.
Do these help?

Not exactly what I was looking for, but thanks for taking the time to post them. I think that Flash Gordon may have the answer (thanks!). It does look like the clip on your signature A2 has a more pronounced bend on the clip where the lanyard attaches, which would allow the clip to rest on the flat of the body. The black A2, from the picture you posted a couple of years ago (from the link in my original post), does appear to have less of a bend causing the clip to rest on the hump of the body.

Note that as and when the clip tension relaxes through use - the clip can be removed and carefully, slowly bent back / reprofiled to suit the needs of the user (and the particular flashlight body)

I think I may have found a better explanation than just the bend in the clip. I found a picture posted in another thread by leukos that shows what I believe is all three generations of the A2. If you look at the 2nd generation A2 (middle light), the top flat is milled back towards the rear of the light much further than the top flat on the 1st generation A2 (bottom light). The difference appears to be approximately 3 rows of the knurling (7 rows on the 1st generation, top of flat to end of knurling as opposed to 4 rows on the 2nd generation).

All i know is that the L1 clip is too short...lost an ML-1 because of it...live and learn. Someone in state college found a really nice light.

I prefer the short clip over the long clip because it is tighter and retains better clipped inside my pocket.
That said, I prefer the U2/K2/UB2/UA2/EW-04 type clip over both the long and short.
