Just had this same issue two weeks ago. I called Surefire and they sent me a new one in less than a week. I'm not sure about tearing it apart, but Surefire will certainly take care of you if you contact them.

Before I learned about the lubrication trick with the tail cap on the U2, I contacted Surefire about my seemingly defective tail cap switch. In a week, I had a new one. No questions asked, no funds tendered. The new switch works great, so I've got it as a backup--the old one is still going strong. :)

If its a DX drop in, make sure you don't tighten the brass pill all the way down into the reflector. Doing so will leave a loose fit between the pill and body and an intermittent contact will result.

Its just a spring connected to a metal plate. Use a multi meter and check for continuity between the "-" spring and pressure plate. Clean the contact points with isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip.

If it is a Surefire twisty tail cap, the chances are higher that the problem is with your drop in as the tail caps are very reliable.

Does the drop in work when you make the connection between the -ve battery terminal and the bottom of the tail cap (ie with a paper clip)?

yes the drop in works fine if i complete the ground

I hear that people have replacements sent to them in less than a week. I also have a tailcap problem, its from my L1.

I've called up surefire and told them about my problem and they told me to send them an email stating the problem I' having, so I did just that and until now 1 week later I still haven't got a reply from them. I've sent them a email just now to follow up.

How long does it take for them to reply to international customers? I'm from the Philippines by the way.

It took me 7 months and about 6 emails to finally get a replacement for the P91 that died after a couple of minutes.

will i took it apart today cleaned it sometimes it will work and sometimes u gotta tap it o well im just gonna order a solar force clickie

ultra fires 3.7v funny thing is it works prefect if u just give it a little tap

Is that 2xRCR123, or 1x17650?

The only reason I'm asking is that it might be an issue with the cell length and the contact with the centre spring of the tail cap.
