hi everyone,
looking for advice on how to strip torchs,i have a uniquefire fitted with a cree r2 which is a very nice thrower and a mte fitted with a ssc p7 which is a powerfull spread, thought i might have a play and see if i could fit the p7 were the r2 is just to see what kind of a thrower i end up with,
so how do you open the body of the torchs,it looks obvious tryed hand pressure but with no success, any info greatly appreciated.

Welcome to CPF:
I think you need to take some time to read and learn a lot more before you take a chance of ruining 2 lights. As a general rule cree and ssc emitters work best with different reflectors.
Good luck..but keep studying.

Don't try it. The reflector geometry will be wrong.

You can't make a P7 throw well in a medium to small reflector.

thanks for the quick replys and concern,i was not thinking of blundering in without taking care,my intension was hopefully try the p7 along with the long throw reflecter of the r2,i have access to machineshops should i need to make heatsinks ect,its just that the temptation to have a look has allways been a trait/curse of mine, anyhow at the very least i would like to get onto the torch without messing up,just need to know if they are glued and screwed ect.

Do you mean Ultrafire?

The Seoul P7 has a larger emitting area(it's essentially 4 Seoul P4s in a single package) and the Cree XR-E has a smaller emitting area(4x smaller, Seoul buys the LED dies from Cree so they have the same size). This larger emitting area means that if you place the P7(or the MC-E, quad die emitter from Cree) into the Ultrafire's reflector, you will get a much wider beam that probably doesn't throw as far. The Cree can throw better in the same size reflector then a Seoul P7 because it has a smaller emitting area.

I hope that wasn't confusing.

:welcome:

Hi fandango,

If you can post some pics of the lights you are talking about it will be easier to help you. I too have the habit of changing around what are otherwise perfectly good lights, just to get something new. Most recently I swapped out the emitter in my ultrafire Q5 for a P7, but it required a considerable amount of work on the heat sink to keep the emitter cool enough, and more adjusting to get the proper focus.
