Having read through most of the write-ups about the 007, I knew that it was a fantastic design. And even though it seemed bullit-proof, I wasn't quite convinced.
So, about two weeks ago, my wife decided to do something completely against her better judgement and wash my jeans. I don't know about your wives (or significant others), but mine does not check pockets when she does laundry. She just throws everything in and doesn't think twice.
Well, the night before I had carried my Spy 007 around and did not take it out of my pocket. So, it got a nice wash and a spin job. I happened to transfer the clothes from the wash to the dryer and noticed a hunk of Ti sitting in the bottom. "Hmmm, looks OK," I thought. I popped the bottom off and there was a small amount of condensation in the inside, so I let it air-dry overnight. The next day I popped in a fresh set of batteries, and it started right up, although a little off-beat.
It would start at level 2, then 3, then 1, then 4, then 5 & 6. There was some noticeable glitch that kept on happening, so I did a reset & calibration and it still did the same thing. "Crap, I hope Dave can fix this." I thought.
Since I was leaving town to take a vacation, I left the Spy open in my drawer for about a week. When I got home, Dave had left me an e-mail saying to open it up and set it someplace warm. I wrote back and told him it had been dry for a while and still acting up, but I hadn't turned it on since getting back from Florida.
Well, that night a new set of batteries went in, a reset & calibration was performed, and back to normal! No glitch, no problems! All right!
Thanks Dave for building a solid-as-a-rock light that can take a thunderstorm, or at least my wife's laundry!
