I got my surefire M4 recently,at the first sight,I`m pretty
satisfied its brightness and range.
But after using other`s KT-1 with N1,N2 Lamp,My M4 with N62.
needless to say the 3in SRTH with N62. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/drool.gif
I know I`m too easy to satisfied...

Of crouse N62 is much brighter than MN60,but the most
important,N62 has a perfectly round but MN60 is very oval
shaped,even got dark area!

I think the lamp`s quality is dropping... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/xyxgun.gif

P.S.The beam`s shape of N1,N2 is same as N62,round!

Maybe I got the defect two.(MN60,MN61 both)

I only have experience with the P60, P61, and MN03 (E2e lamp), but in my opinion, these lamps were top quality with very nice beams. Especially the MN03. Then again, I don't do a lot of white wall-ing stuff. I'm out in the fields.

Maybe I`m a bad luck guy...
I just got an defect N1(NIB) yesterday. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif

You need to check out Shelby Chan's macro photos of the SureFire Lamps because the filament shape reflect the beam shape.

Nope the MN60 and 61 are more oval than round. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Same here (oval shapes). As Al and JT hinted, this shape is normal, or expected. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I used to bother a lot about the oval shape but now I just ignore it. I somehow find it quite useful because I get a slightly wider horizontal beam for illuminating the verandah of a house in front of me, or for illuminating a stretch of jungle. I get this effect when I use the MN10 on my M3 but the MN11 still comes out perfectly round.

I don't think the shape has much to do with the filament but the fit of the bulb on the assembly. I have 2 P60 lamp assembly. The earlier P60 is oval but the latest one I got is a very tight round spot. So why is that so? Is P60 using 2 different types of filament?

I just received a new P60 and P61 for a G2. Both put out a very smooth, very round beam. On the other hand, my C3's P90 and P91 bulbs output a bright, but noticeably more oval beam.

Additionally, I have ordered and received approximately 40 G2's for co-workers, and out of those there have been 4 defective P61 bulbs, and a couple of other bulbs that failed due to drops from relatively small heights (waist height to be exact). Other G2's have been dropped from greater heights onto cement and the bulb did not blow. I'm sure that whether the light was on or off at the time is a factor.

It seems that when a Surefire bulb is manufactured exactly right, it is a very durable, long lasting tool. However, when the bulb isn't manufactured exactly right, it is rather fragile.

Of the dozen or so G2's from my first order about 18 months ago, the majority are still using the original bulb, and that is with frequent use considering people's flashlights are used on an almost daily business around the nuclear plant.
