I would like to know if cold temperatures have any affects on Li-ion batteries.
I have a Dereelight DBS with a 3sd pill (one of Alan's new pills) and I have noticed that when I first turn the light on (High mode) the light will cut off in a few seconds. I can turn the light on / off many times with the same problem. At the same time, the light will stay on in both the Med and Low setting without cutting off. Now if I run the light on the Med or Low mode for a few minutes and then switch to Hi, the light works perfectly.
This morning I tried the light after letting it sit all night without being used and the light cut off in Hi but worked in Med and Low. Once I used the light in Med for a few minutes and switch to Hi, it worked without cutting off. After I knew it was working fine everytime in High, I put the battery in the freezer for 10 minutes. When I put the battery back into the light, I experienced the same problem with cutting off until it seem the battery "Warmed" up. So it seems that the battery needs to be "Warmed up" before my light works perfectly in high mode.
Is this a problem with Li-ion batteries? Hopefully this make since.

Thanks

Hello 5.0,

All battery chemistries work better when warm. I am not sure what the current draw is on high, or what the protection circuit is set to, but the battery will be better able to handle higher currents when it has warmed up.

The RC people try to keep their Li-Ion and Li-Po batteries above 80 F for the best performance. You may want to try keeping the light in your pocket for awhile before using it.
