I've looked in the past threads, but am still not sure if these would work safely? Can anyone tell me the latest thoughts on this? I love my new Surefire L4 and E1B, but really would like to run rechargables.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

I don't have the L4 so can't comment on that, but I do have the E1B which works great with LiFePO4 batteries.

What kind of runtime are you getting out of it?
I assume it's as bright as it is on primaries as well?

Thanks for the input!

Expect very short runtimes compared to Lithium primaries & even compared to Li-Ion. About half the time of Li-Ion & Li-Ion lasts about 1/3rd as long as lithium primaries. Unlike Li-Ion though there is a period of dimming before they go completely out. Most Li-Ion are protected & will not operate below 3 volts for the unregulated & 2.5 volts for the regulated ones. LiFePo4 batteries are much safer & dont need protection circuits.

If you get dimming before the batteries exhausted with lithium primaries you will get the same with LiFePo4 batteries because of the lack of protection circuits

True capacity is likely to be around 200-250mAH not 750mAH.

I have AW LiFePO4, and with the E1B, and any light actually, I get about 1/3 of the runtime that I would get with primaries.
The brightness on both levels seems the same as with primaries.

Where did I get my AW LiFePO4?

Best place for 'em......, AW. :naughty:

And here

There are plenty of brands of lithium rechargeable, and many of them are good, but if you want a well known battery from a trusted seller, AW is the way to go. As you know, some of his batteries are sold through Lighthound and Fenix-store, but I think for the LiFePO4 you will need to order from him directly.

Looks like the AW ones do better than the ones I had. I had some early Ultralast rechargable so called Li-Ion that were actually LiFePo4 (The current ones are in fact regulated Li-Ion).

The early Ultralasts were way over rated for capacity (700mAH) & I only got about 15 minutes regulated 5 minutes gradually dimming out of them on my Inova Xo3 that I had at the time. With lithium primaries i could get 2 hours regulated with anouther half hour gradually dimming performance.

With 700mAH I should have been able to get 1 hour regulated time out of them.

I have been using Tenergy 3.2V RCR in my E1b. So far so good. Right off the charger the low on the E1b flickers for a cpl minutes so I either settle things down by first pooping the battery into another light for a cpl minutes or just run the E1b on high for 2 minutes and the low level calms down and functions normally. The light is a bit briter with the 3.2v but I dont think it is overdriving or hurting the lite. I get about 20-25 mins on high with these batteries. Not too bad. I dont know about using these stacked togehter in an L4 though. I have never been comfortable stacking any RCR LIions and only use them in single cell lites. If stacking definitley go with Lifepo4 Tenergy makes those also or AW or IMR16340s from AW. You cant go wrong with AW batteries
