There has been a lot of fantastic mods. with P7 emitters
and I started thinking about the OP reflector for my V1 DBS.

The 0~100% module available from DX is about (w/ fresh cell) 1.4A at emitter with a Q5.
I put this pill into my OP reflector and noticed to didn't screw in as far as my other w/ SMO.

Understanding it wouldn't throw as far, I when outside last night to give a test.

All I gotta say is the beam is BOOMING!!!!

Sure it doesn't have that record shattering/piercing Lux spot, but the beam made me laugh a bit.
~My neighbor was looking out of his window wondering "Where's the Fire!!..

I ordered both reflectors when I bought my DBS/V1.
It came the the SM installed so I played with it a couple of nights, and then I installed the OP.

The OP is still in there, and won't be coming out for the foreseeable future.
The SM reflector in the DBS is simply not practical for most real-world use, while the OP loosens up the hot-spot just enough to make it a great light.

My OP-inion, of course.

I ordered my DBS V2 with the R2 emitter and just the OP reflector. Well, I'm pretty darn happy with what the DBS does with an OP. The beam is indeed "BOOMING"! For my intended use of well within 100 meters, the looser hotspot and brighter spill is excellent.

Someone in another thread questioned the use of an OP in the DBS seeing as how it was a light built for throw. I didn't bother responding to that post but wish I had. People shouldn't underestimate the punch of the DBS with an OP.

Still, I wish I had gotten both just so I could see what the DBS can do with an SMO. Oh well....

Wondering what I could do with the XP-E P60 module from DX,
I put the pill into the DBS OP reflector and it works way better than I thought it would.

There is a large hotpot, but within that is a small, more concentrated superhotspot... (no rings)

Good throw and usable spill makes for a great beam,
and a fun project for $11.
The tint is WC; slightly cool for my taste, but for a thrower, it's good.
Running it w/ 2 18350s

~ It blows me away how CREE can get so much light from what looks like a speck of sand ~ lovecpf
