I joined CPF back in mid-October when I wanted to be able to do some searches to find a good replacement for my Inova XO3 and X5 that I'd had for a couple of years.

After being initially overwhelmed with lots of information, I ended up purchasing a Fenix P3D RB 100. I was blown away that a 200 lumen LED light even existed. Once I saw it in action I was amazed with it in comparison with anything I had seen before. And so it began…

Then FASTCar and others got me all intrigued with the Olight and the Dereelights. So, I just had to get the CL1H, and I liked it so much I had to get the DBS. Then I started reading about Wolf-Eyes...and then about Tiablo…and then about Surefire… To my wallet's misfortune, I kept on reading posts on CPF. The resulting "CPF Effect" (as I like to call it) was a vortex there was no avoiding being sucked into, resulting in a lot of unbelievable lights, and a new-found hobby that is much more fun that I would have imagined.

New CPF'rs – you've heard long-time members jokingly say "hold on to your wallet". Well, let me just say for the record - they aren't kidding!!!

Now you need to get your hands on a Mad Maxabeam Mag623. That one has 4500 lumens (I forget if that is bulb lumens or out the front lumens). It's bright enough to start a fire. Granted it's not an LED, but it will more than double your "total lumen capacity" with a single light. :naughty:

Yep, you got a good dose of it. As you probably already know, it only gets worse. If you're impressed with 200 lumens get a Mag85. And Welcome!!

I have liked flashlights for a long time, well since I can remember. I registered on this forum in Jan 2007 after I was given a surefire U2 as a gift. I already owned a surefire 9Z that I had used for years and loved it. Since discovering you guys I have got the Surefire bug and purchased...

That is an impressive acquistion effort! Nice work...

I am starting to try to stay away from the marketplace as I feel pretty good about the current selection I have - pared down nicely:

Dereelight CL1H v3.0 - 18650s on the way but this is my higher power throw light. I really like the upgrade path as well.

Jil JCR2 IT - my daily pocket carry light. Bright and small.

Liteflux LF5 - backup pocket light when I want longer runtimes or oomph.

Liteflux LF2 - keychain light - a lot of utility in a small package.

Those cover about all my bases. The first three run on LiIons primarily but can run on some sort of conventional battery setup as a backup (2xCR123, 1xCR2 and 1xAA respectively). I may eventually get LiIons for the LF2 but it gets relatively less use so I'm not sure it is worth the investment or time, since it does pretty well on Lithium AAAs.

Oh yeah - and there is the Mag85 I won in the Christmas giveaway from DonShock - which is just sort of startling really. After a full charge it puts out a silly amount of light - I was spotting things across the river at my inlaws house over Christmas and thought I was holding a spotlight. And it gets plenty hot out the front. I'm still not sure if this won't end up being passed on for charity or another second chance giveaway for CPF at some point, but I have enjoyed playing with it some!

I've broken just about every "I don't know why you need ..........., so I'll never buy a .........." that I first said to myself when I first found CPF. I've mostly surrendered control of my wallet too. Thank goodness a SF Beast is still out of reach.

Gatsby's post is a perfect example of how low I've sunk. At first I thought "That Mag85 sounds bright, but who needs a flashlight that expensive." Now, I build one out of spare parts laying around and give it away.

But seriously, now that you've got this enormous flashlight arsenal, what do you intend to do with them all? Do you regularly use a flashlight and plan to just rotate your inventory on a periodic basis?:candle:

I ask myself this question when I look at my flashlight collection. "What am I ever going to use all these for?!" even though I love them all. I figure a shelf full of flashlights is better than a shelf full of Hummels.

In the last year, I'v purchased around 20 lights, and given away/sold maybe 7.
Only about 25% high end lights,.. the others inexpensive.

There is really no reason for me to have that many lights, I simply find the quantum physics around the emitter most interesting
~ thats why I chose orbital (Atomic orbital) for my user name.

Lately, I get most satisfaction on doing simple mods to my lights....

Well, you posed a very interesting question, so I forced myself to do the painful math... works out to 42 cents per lumen.
