The Netherlands, yes way below sealevel
different people different flavours

however i noticed that a lot of people also have the same wishlist.

for me this would be the perfect 1x AA flashlight.

Brightness of the L1DCE Q5(or better bin)
batteryregulation of the L1DCE
2-5 levels
14500 support
a low low
user interface of the nitecore.

this means either fenix modifies the L1DCE to support 14500's without loosing modes(seems simple to do) or nitecore improving batterylife and brightness on 14500

Brightness
turbo 3500 lux, run time 1 hour or more
high 2000 lux, runtime at least 2 hours
low as low as you can go. 5 lux

did i miss anything or does such a light allready exist.

Ummm, isn't the Nightcore brighter than the L1D?
Making it brighter is only going to happen by getting a better binned LED. It is direct drive for the first bit of its burn so nothing is going to make it any brighter. If you want longer runtime then you're going to get a few minutes with a more efficient driver at the same brightness.
Asking for brighter and longer runtime is unrealistic. Wait for a Cree R4 bin I guess.

it is brighter on Nimh. however on 14500 it is the same

it would be nice if it was as bright as l1dce with 14500(3500lux)
on nimh brightness is ok.

It is brighter on NiMh due to a boost circuit that pulls more mA out of the battery and gives more to the LED.

Its the same on 14500 because both lights are on direct drive. You won't get the light any brighter without using a better binned LED.

You can't get direct drive brightness on a NiMh battery due to losses in the boost circuit. Regulation/ conversion is always going to loose you some brightness. Plus, the more energy you pull out of the battery the more you loose as efficiency goes down as power conversion goes up. Thermodynamics sucks, we all think so.

Also, how do you define brightness? Lux is best used to describe/ measure throw. Want more throw? Get a bigger reflector. :) Lumens is what I'd consider to be brightness.

ok

to avoid confussion you should read selfbuilts reviews and compare numbers

in his graphs the nitecore goes as high as 65 on his scale

L1DCE Q5 with AW14500 however goes to 75

so on nimh
nitecore 65
L1DCE Q5 45
YES NITECORE IS BRIGHTER

on AW14500
nitecore 65
L1DCE Q5 75
YES FENIX IS BRIGHTER

this has nothing to do with directdrive because both the fenix and the nitecore are in directdrivemode with aw14500's

Nitecore somehow limited the max output to reduce head

Take the Fenix L1D CE, remove the flash on low level, make all levels work proper with 14500, give it a natural HAIII (non-slippery black) finish. Maybe a mild knurling on the head to make it easier to 1-hand it.

To me, that's the perfect AA.

The 4 lights that are close (in my opinion) are the Dexlight x.1 (great output on 14500), the Rexlight 2.1 (great output vs battery life), the Fenix L1D CE (close but has low level flash, no 14500 support), and the Nitecore DI (which is currently as good as it gets).

That is EXACTLY how i think about it too

i think the fenix and the nitecore are the easiest to modify.

So fenix if you read this please make the modifications

Sounds like you all may be describing the Olight T-15. I'm considering one of these. Any thoughts?

Right now the NDI has become my EDC pocket light of choice because of the low-low and rugged design. If the low could be made lower...it'd be even better.

Both lights are fueled by a fully charged Eneloop.

Infinity is just a name. If you expect everything to live up to its name, prepare to lead a life full of disappointment :p

I recently got SKU 5346 .. Awesome little light! built like a tank, very bright & white color light. I looked for weeks for a nice 1xAA from DX, and I love this one. Also SKU 1993 would be a good choice too.

duc nguyen

I Got JetBeam MKII.X and NiteCore running on 14440 and I think JetBeam is ahead on bightness and throw.
