In the spirit of cpf I'm deleting this post because it wasn't worth leaving here, I believe I was making an argument for arguments sake, and didn't like the way it read today. I agree with Catdaddy, and sniping here isn't very cpf.

If you are planning on bidding, go ahead and do it now. Let's not snipe on this one since it is for CPF and the truly highest bidder should get it. Snipping simply lets a lower bid win without others having a chance to raise their bids. We should all lay our cards on the table.

Obviously I can't make this a rule. I am just asking since we are, as Sasha said, "family".

I'm glad you made this post! I had composed one earlier but chose not to post it because I didn't want this thread to become a discussion on sniping. In brief, my comment qualified as MHO, was basically if someone wins this auction with a bid placed at 9:59, it isn't a cheap shot, but given the nature of this auction as well as the community, it is a "cheap" shot. Let the auction roll and hopefully folks will consider any differences between what is within the rules as compared to what is "right".

I agree with catdaddy, the cpf is different and in the spirit of the cpf, what you are ultimately willing to bid is important and shouldn't be saved for the last minutes of the auction. In the spirit of the cpf I am going to delete my earlier post because I think I was splitting hairs and maybe making an argument for argument sake.

Well, sheesh. If you're going to claim that only bidders can make snarky comments, I'll just have to buy that right.

I agree that last-minute sniping would be rude (and subject to all sorts of weirdness, which might be fun to watch: bids coming in during the last 30 seconds that are too low, a high bid showing up with a timestamp one second too late, etc.)

To stop sniping, I'd suggest keeping the auction open for 5 minutes after the last bid. That would give any serious bidder a chance to avoid being sniped.

Oh, and the Subject line here is correct.

Wow!

On Friday I paid $1725 for a new transmission in my poor old Honda. That cash would have been nice to have now, and because at this moment I've got transmission fluid leaking all over my driveway apparently it wasn't quite enough to get the job done right. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I wish I could afford to just ditch the car and buy a flashlight. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
