*They* just don\'t understand

I showed my Thor to a group at the fire house tonight. I lit up a water tower than the top of a much taller structure farther away, etc, etc.
I said that there were plans available to make it a lot brighter.
The deputy chief looked at me and asked why anyone would want it brighter....
Sigh, they just don't understand.

Re: *They* just don\'t understand

I think Will Rogers said, "Everybody's ignorant, just about different things."

So we all don't understand about something, only it's just different things.

I'm reminded that the British used to build elephant guns in .600 Nitro Express caliber. Then in 1988 or so, Holland and Holland made one up in a .700 Nitro Express caliber. As I recall, the rifle was engraved with images of a T-Rex being hunted...

I told my friend about the X990 group buy I'm doing right now. "They're paying HOW MUCH for a flashlight? That's a discount??!" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Re: *They* just don\'t understand

does anyone really have a practical reason to have a brighter thor ?
i have a thor - and i want it brighter - but only for the "look my light will bounce of clouds" type of effect - i dont have any real reason to make it brighter - to be truly honest i dont need anything brighter than my little half million cp spot

Re: *They* just don\'t understand

practical reason to make it brighter? I thought having a "practical reason" to own an insanely bright light violates the rules here ?

Re: *They* just don\'t understand

I like brighter too, brighter is just cool. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif But for emergency service personnel, maybe the longer run time of the stock Thor would suit them better.

Re: *They* just don\'t understand

I would think for a longer runtime couldn't you swap the SLA battery for a larger rated one? Only difference then would be the increased charge time. I want longer runtime AND brighter.

It's not just extreme lights like the M6, Thor or x990 (to name a few) that people have a hard time justifying. Tell them what an L4 costs and they have conniptions.

At least 95% of the time the output of a litebox is more than adequate and the 8 hour run time is appreciated.
The standard Thor is more than bright enough for the times when we are looking down stream or in the orchards and fields for somebody that "may" have wandered off from the wrecked car.
Granted my Thor will light up the telephone pole about 1/2 mile away and it would a human but nobody would be able to see them as a person at that distance.
A few Thors with difusers would also be wonderful for working off road.
