Thief - Cops and my SFG2

The other night i caught a guy breaking in the neihbors van in front of my house. As soon as i saw him i grabbed my SFG2 and Glock.40. When I turned on the porch light he was gone. I flashed the surrounding sides of my house to make sure there were no other thiefs, and procceeded to go outside and check the neihbors van. The door had been left opened by the thief, i put away my glock and i called the cops. The cops arrived and all had maglight or SL rechargeables and there lights were about even in brightness with my SF G2.

One cop looked at my light with a surprise as too how bright it was.

Anyhow, just food for thought

Junior,

Many cops are dismally paid, and reluctant to part with the bucks for a SF. Then there are the ones who won't buy anything for themselves, using issue gear only- regardless of how crappy it may be. Then there are the ones who work for narrow-minded administrators who won't ALLOW them any personally-purchased gear on the job.

IOW, there are more SF-aware cops out there than you may think, but don't have one for one reason or another.

When I bought my 6P in 1990, I was universally acclaimed as an idiot for buying a $60 "baby" flashlight that used $7 batteries. The laughs and jeers gradually decreased as they saw what it could do.

For that matter, the SL-20 available today is not half the light the early ones were. I still have the one I purchased in 1979. Its on it's third switch (and I've lost count of how many battery sticks I've gone through), it is beat all to hell, but it still a more durable flashlight than a new one.

We issue the Stinger these days, but most soon realize the need for an auxillary light of some sort. Some even buy one... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I know someone on the SWAT team up here, he was showing me and some of my friends his "toybox" and had a modified M-16. I asked if it was an M6, he gave me a look that implied, "What kind of rifle is an M-6?" I then asked if the light mounted on it was an M6, he said yea and turned it on. Steve is right. Not everyone invests in their own jobs and not all cops have access to the best guns, like in Britain, even if they definitely knows about it.

What I meant is that an M6 should be rather obvious to a CPFer that its a M6.

But if we go in your direction then M3 can also meant a shotgun, M4 a carbine, P90 a SMG... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Guns and lights often share names...

Boy that Colt M-6s looks like a nice holder for a SureFire and a Laser pointer.... I got a new M-4 Colt but its a bit longer.. Where do you get those M-6s Colts? Hey put several lights on it with a 4 sided rail mount fore grip system...

Lets see, we could fit an LED, Incan, LASER and a Night vision scope all on the same Colt M-6s Flashlight holder! MMMM....

Actually you can own firearms privately in Singapore but you can't keep them at home. They must be kept at a secure armory at the gun club of which you have to be a member of naturally. You must first go through screening by the police before you are allowed a licence to purchase & import any firearm, replica or even speargun. You can however keep a speargun at home in a secure place of course. I used to process such licences. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I wrecked my truck last december, on a dark foggy night. I had my 2D Mag with a 6 cell bulb and some 123s. First the fireman asked why the light was so bright after I let him use it while he was putting kitty litter on the oil leaking from my truck. Then as I was looking for spare parts on the street a cop asked how I got this "little thing" to be brighter than her 4D. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My perspective on some/most LEO/PO not carrying brighter lighting tools:

My Force used to have flashlights that were to be used by everybody (an ugly, unknown brand of 2 D), but for the last 25 years has been personally issuing us flashlights (previously the Koehler Bright-Star Director-Lite 3 D with slip-on red traffic wand, but for about the last couple of years, the 3 D Mag).

Since most of our members went out and bought their own Mags (either C or D powered), most Commanders were willing to buy alkaline versions of those type of power sources. On top of that, most Units have bought Stingers or Polystingers that are issued to each patrol vehicle, and installed the DC chargers in the cars.

Most Commanders would probably have a budget-fit if they had to go out and buy 123A lithiums (best brick-and-mortar retailer government-price I have found is $4.45 each). However, with more Units using digital cameras, many of which use 123A, that may change, since the Commanders will have to buy those cells anyway.

Now, if ALL of my fellow members were using 123A lithium powered lighting tools, and ALL Units had digital cameras that used 123A lithium cells, MAYBE the Commanders would see the logic in buying only 1 type of power source?! This is one of those situations where you go, "Hmmmmm?!"
