Thoughts on 17500 battery pak ?

Hi all,

I think this might deserve a thread on its own.

Like many I mostly use 1xRCR123 li-ion batt pak with my sundrop/Haiku but more runtime wouldn't hurt. I have a 17670 pak but then the size isn't ideal for pocket carry. I only use a 2xRCR123 pak with my Makai.

I wonder if the 1.5 battery format (ie 17500) has been previously discussed in the McGizmo world, except for Aleph compatible battery tubes, I don't recall.

Don, what is your position on this battery format ? Have you considered offering them and if not, what prevented you from doing so ?

Any input or experience with this battery format (real world use would be great) appreciated.

Hi Tino,
I was given the impression by CPF members at the time that a 1.5 battery format would be a great idea as it could host either a AA or 17500 Li-Ion cell (back in the Aleph days). I had a run of these made in aluminum and they went over like lead balloons. I'll never say never but the only way I could see doing some of these is if I have an offering in a complete light that uses them.

I really like the Haiku in the original format. As it has 3 speed, it is sufficient for my applications. Then again, I do carry spare batts where ever I go.

I'm definitely in for Ti 17500 McGizmo pak, which can be also used as 14500 pak w/thin sleeve. :)

Indeed, this thread has been out for a week and hasn't drawn much interrest!

Just as a reference, a 17500 holds 45% more capacity than the RCR123 format. That would translate into 45% more runtime.
