I got to thinking, Ti really fits my needs better than Ha type III, since I am always around saltwater.

I have an original run Ti-PD UV1J, and a Black HA PD-S mizer with similar tint.

Basically, how hard would it be to switch the boards and emitters and reflectors (And O-rings!), a stright swap. That way I would have an original run, Ti PD-S mizer, and a black HA UV1J PD.

Has anyone done this? How hard is it? I realllllly wanna do it!

I say it should be 100% doable. This is from a person that hasn't see the PD-S mizer before.

The mizer looks the exact same, I think it is the same as the non-mizer, just a different resistor.

Basically it is a different resistor. The seoul led should use a higher heatsink and a shorter reflector so if you change everything, it should work.

Looks like PSM is shedding his strong man image for the more sensable and functional Mizer clothed in the almighty Ti!

Good choice my friend, hope you can manage a swap.

Poor guy has been married a month, and already he's been Mizer'd!! :awman:

That's what happens to married men, doesn't it, Mack? :p

The only difficulty you will have is when removing the emitters. They are epoxied to the heatsinks, so it will be very difficult to remove them without damaging/completely destroying them...

Your best bet would be to just buy a Seoul P4 emitter (USVOI for warmer tint) and do an emitter swap on the Ti PD. Switching the boards will be as simple as de-soldering a few wires and re-soldering them on the other head.

Edit: if you didn't want to deal with unsoldering the board from the head of the Alu PD, you could get away with making the Ti PD's converter board a mizer. The only difference is the resistor. You can see HERE that I lowered the resistance of the board and made my Ti s27-PD's drive current ~833mA.

In stock form, the board has one .1 ohm 0603 resistor. You could easily remove this resistor and drop a .15 ohm 0603 resostor and acheive the 325mA mizer current. Or you could drop a .12 ohm resistor and get ~410mA. The formula is I = .05/R.

I say switch everything so no need to remove emitter. Just desolder wires.

Re: Ti-PD, Black HA PD-S Mizer.... Board & Emitter Switcharoo?

If he only swapped the boards (which would be the easiest thing to do), he then would have a mizer Luxeon Ti PD. He will need to remove the emitter from the Ti head if he wants it to be a Seoul light.

Oh yeah, it's more involved when you want to swap leds or use a shortened seoul reflector or a different combination.

I think its just a straight swap..... I got em apart..... :naughty:

The Mizer is the way to go. For sure.

HA!

I officially have a Mizer 1st run Ti PD-S.... :nana:

So easy..... A caveman could do it...

All I did was unscrew the boards, desolder the wires from the boards, pull the emitters out through the front, I then added some Artic silver (Just to be safe), then resoldered, then put em all back together.

Thankyou goldserve and cryhavok for giving me the balls to try this. I dont like screwing with $$$ lights, but it payed off...

I had a little bit of flickering on the Ti PD after the swap. I messed with the kilroy a bit and it fixed the issue...

The Buldger lives on with a new heart and brain....

:rock: Very cool! Glad to hear it worked out!

The emitters were easilly popped off the heatsink? I remember when I did a Luxeon swap in my old Alu PD, the existing emitter was epoxied on the bulkhead heatsink...basically had to destroy the emitter in the removal process.

Anyway, good work...I know the sigh of relief after taking apart and putting back together a +$400 McGizmo light

PSM,

Now that you have no need for that Black HA PD, feel free to send it my way ;)

I should have taken pics.....

The heatsink and the emitter are located on a "module" or "Disc" that is held in there by the screw on the board. In other words, no popping off emitters. One I desoldered the wires from the board, I pulled the whole heatsink and emitter out through the front. There was thermal paste between the wall of the PD and the heatsink.

This is the way Don started making them so swaps like mine would be easy, I guess....
