Help Support Candle Power:

Hey guys,

Again, I'm glad you are all so pleased with these, thanks for all the kind comments.

The batteries are #10 zinc-air hearing aid batteries, available at any grocery store.

The "distressed" finish is achieved by lightly bead blasting over machining marks and then lightly etching.

Sorry for the continued delay on the official sales thread, but I am actively editing the pics for it now. In the meantime, here's a shot of the last batch before they went out:D.

Waiting on a runtime from AppleVision :) But baby duty does take precedent, since baby's cry and lights don't care. :)

I don't think there are alternative batteries since this was designed to run like the original Firefly that used Zinc Air hearing aid batteries. I don't know the battery size or designation, guess we need to have Apple Vision give us that information too. Or perhaps Chip will join in and tell us. I know I want one or more lights already. :poke:

Hee hee!

Sorry guys! I'm changing a LOT of diapers... ugh!

So, yeah, Zinc-air hearing aid batts, takes 4 of 'em. Runtime--not sure on that. My guess is similar to the old FireFli:
The FireFli runs for about 50 hours to 50% intensity, and about 68 hours overall.
from: http://ledmuseum.candlepower.us/firefli.htm

...but that's truly a guess--I'm not keen on running them down all the way since they are not cheap...

I use it for about 1-2 min per day (usually going to the bathroom at night or getting the baby for a feeding) and it's going strong.

Looks like I'm lucky enough to be in the next run, sent my payment today for 1 each of the recessend and exposed LEDs.

Applevision, do you know if your light with the 'distressed' finish is the satin or the bead blasted finish? From the pics, it doesn't look bead blasted to me, so I'm guessing satin?

Anyway, looking forward to these two beauties arriving sometime in the not too distant future (I hope).
I think Chip answered for the finish... bead blasted then etched. It's gorgeous!

These are spectacular!

Wow, those look awesome, I hope I can be able to get one when I have some more money. :broke:

applevision, hopefully you'll be able to give us your thoughts on how the TiFli is holding up to being worn all the time.

Do you feel it when you're sleeping? How is it holding up after being in the shower, tub, swimming pool, lake or ocean?

Will selfbuilt get one for review?

Hey FitzDaug,

I will totally keep you all posted!

So far so good with showers... hopefully if Chicago weather is good, swimming in pool next week!

As for Selfbuilt, I don't know... Chip, can we get a loaner to him? My guess is that Selfbuilt would be kind of bored with it... but I wonder... Also, I wonder if Peter Atwood would be interested in this thing... he likes the Drake/Draco a lot and he likes clever things. And this is certainly clever!

In terms of sleeping, etc, I feel it just a touch more than the FireFli, but it's not a bother at all compared to the Nano or the Wee...
:D

How would a photon beam compare?

Excellent question, Tixx, and I'm so sorry I didn't include it in the pics!

Part of the problem is that I have a few newer Fauxtons around now and I can't seem to find a fresh Photon. But what seems to be a pretty new Photon is actually significantly brighter than the TiFli and is frankly even a bit brighter than the Streamlight Nano! In fact, it is brighter and MUCH whiter with a MUCH smoother beam!

So again, there is no doubt that the Photon (and frankly, many fauxtons) are phenomenal lights that are true workhorses! My only issue with them is that they are plastic and just a bit clunky.

I will try to take some pics soon!

:grin2:

One more of the small lights has found its home and I like the look of the light:

It might look huge in that picture, but it is not, here is one for size comparison:

Beautiful ano. Maybe I should get a second one...

The only thing left to know is runtime and is it waterproof.

Since its noticeably brighter then the original; could we assume its going to take a pretty significant hit in runtime?

It's killing me! How am I going to convince the wife that I need to get this setup. Lets see, $75-100 for the light and $150-200 for a Ti chain.

Fathers Day is coming up though.;)

I'm still a noob and I can't believe I'm truly contimplating getting this. I thought I was crazy for getting the D10 with a slotted piston and a trit. That was more $ than I ever thought I would spend on a flashlight.

Now look at me!:shakehead

Glad you found your Phial apple!:candle:

It looks like it is waterproof, but I am not going to test it and if it is completely airtight the batteries will not work.

No, the leds has improved since then. The current is about 2 mA from the batteries (Starts at 20 but drops pretty fast to 2), now we just need to find the rating for the batteries.

Good point about the batteries needing air and thanks for the current measurement.

I thought the light would slowly dim as the oxygen was used up. Then you would have to open the light to "refuel" it.

 Now that I think about it, couldn't you leave it tightened indeffinately with no drain to the batteries? Then it could be the "loosen for on" some people were craving.

I believe that is the way the TiFli functions.
I don't know how well the LED is sealed and some air may get in around that area and thus keeping the LED powered at a very very low state.

Hey guys,

The TiFli's should be completely watertight. The LED is sealed in with epoxy. :) You will have to occasionally open them up to replenish the air supply and 'refuel', as mentioned earlier.

Thanks Chip.

Approximately how long does it last before you have to fill it up? Do you think there is anything wrong with leaving it tightened?
