Hi all after owning the TK11 and a few other LED based torches im looking for more power, more throw than my TK11 which i use every night to walk the dog. Is there anything else better than the TK11 ie. more throw but still LED or is my next option a HID like the N30.

I would like the bigger size if it did have more light output i find the size of the TK11 the biggest you can fit in your pocket, but just thinking about it, i have the light turned on for a good 90 percent of the time when carrying it so something mag sized is fine

Ive looked at dreelight and tiablos but im not sure how they would compare to the TK11, what im really wanting is a few CPF'ers to say yes get the DBS its got way more throw.:D

Also how would a M60 in a 6P fair against the TK11:shrug:

Well i can give you some help on your m60 vs tk11.question I had a T1 and it was very difficult to tell witch was brighter my M60'235LM' or my T1.But the T11 is a lot brighter and has more throw then the T1 so with that I'd say the T11 will outperform the M60

225 lumens, with pretty good throw as well, isn't enough to walk the dog? C'mon........................

You can get more distance with the larger reflector'd "throwers" but not too much more output without going to an SSC P7 (which aren't known for great throw anyway).

Sounds like HID or Xenon/incan time!

EDIT: as a side note, I'm not so sure that you'll want a pure thrower to walk your dog. I'd go with something with a bit wider/brigher spill beam. Maybe that's not it's primary use though.....................

Ok, numbers:

TK11, 11360 lux at 1 meter
DBS, 29100 lux at 1 meter
A9, 21380 lux at 1 meter

So which one throw better?

Remember that the total output is similar though. The DBS has a much narrower beam.

Also the N30 should out throw all the above.

Is it really more throw that you need or more output?

I used to think I want a light with more throw. I have owned a R2 modified MRV that threw very well, but that is all it would do.

I now have a apheric Mag that throws amazingly well, and can be defocused to flood also.

I am sure that a P7 light would probably do both of those thing for you. Provide more light and some throw.

How far are we talking here?

The Tiablo and Dereelights do throw well at the expense of side spill.

If you're walking in a very dark area this can be annoying not having any side spill. If the area you are walking in has some decent ambient lighting, then it will not be as big of a deal.

You definitely want a lot of flood for walking.I remember using my S/F KL3 on walks and after a short time i felt like i was walking in a tunnel :sick2:

right a lot to answer to, thanks for all the replies.

thermal guy- thanks for clearing that up, an M60 can wait a few more weeks

superflytnt- what do you expect im a flashaholic:grin2:, also im scared of dark woods. yeah im leaning towards an N30

generic808- nice but way out my price range

Nitroz- probably about 200 metres with a small hot spot and fair amount spill, the TK11 has the right amount of spill but i find i could do with a tighter brighter hotspot, yeah i do need spill too.

does anyone know how much spill the N30 has

TITAN1833-so your saying the DBS has got plenty side spill and more throw, you dont happen to have the TK11 to do a comparison:shrug:

I really just want a brighter TK11 dont mind if its bigger:twothumbs

i really like the sound of the DBS

EDIT; i had a look at the wolf eyes sniper, sounds good but cant find any retailers please tell me its $100 under

I had a TK10 and compared it to a Lumapower MRV that I modded with an R2 Cree. While it threw very well it had little spill. The MRV is alot like the Dereelight and Tiablo.

Here's my review of the TK10 which has beamshots with the MRV included.http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showpost.php?p=2408701&postcount=1

I think a P7 modded Mag would be a nice fit for what you want.

You want a light that can throw about 650 feet to walk a dog? That's insane!

why do you think i wait until 11 at night to walk the dog i could walk her when i get home from work but thats no fun because its still light outside.

walking the dog is just an excuse to play with my torches lol:twothumbs

So how easy would it be to mod a mag with a P7 LED i have decent soldering skills i just need instructions and a list of websites that sell the parts

EDIT; just read you review it rings a bell im sure i had already seen it lol

Have fun walking the dog.

In the spirit of CPF, it looks like you will have to buy all the lights to try. :)
