TK20 long term owners

i've had my TK20 for about 6 months now. i think it is a great light. especially for a non flashoholic. it's the best thrower i have and the tint is so good i use it during the day inspecting roof framing and drywall finish. most LEDs fall way short in this.
every once in a while i have to double click the clicky to get it to activate but that is not a show stopper.
when ran on turbo for a considerable time (maybe an hour) i loose turbo but at least you still have a very usable flashlight. how long that lasts i can not say. i just pop in freshly charged duraloops when i get a chance. also, i do not hear any whine in mine or any other LED. i'm sure the TK20 whines but i just can't hear it.
this light lives in my truck and is like my heavey backup, long lasting, no compromising, hardcore, flame throwing turbo dog. i would definately buy another.

Maybe you should disassemble the switch unit and if necessary, clean it. I had to do this once, too, because the lubricant I used for the threads got into it and the light flickered (or at least I think it was the lubricant's fault :D).

I didn't click on it the first time around. I checked that thread out months ago, and hadn't seen the newer posts with the TK20...how did the HA hold up to all that abuse?

Only major spot is where it dropped onto bare rock and rubbed some off the bezel. I took a pic and put it in that thread.

I've had mine for nearly a year. When I first seen the light on 7777's, I insisted on getting it. So a couple of months later I got it. The anticipation of it coming in the mail was horrible, even though it only took like 4 days...:)

When I finally got it, I was so impressed at the robustness, brightness, and most importantly, the tint. All my other lights took a back seat for a few months.

I too noticed a whine, a rather loud, annoying whine, so I e-mailed 7777's, and they said it was normal, so I accepted it.

My first actual time using it outdoors at night was my last. Holding it in a tactical grip, the noise was enough to drive me bonkers!!

To make matters worse.......

What flies around at night in the summer time, is attracted to high pitched noises, and is willing to dive bomb the location where said noise is coming from????

Before I realized what was going on, I had been whacked in the head by two bats! I finished what I was doing, with general mode, You know, the measly 45 lumen spot that is about as useless as **** on a bull...

The light then was relegated to behind the seat of my truck with L-91's for storage, and I bought a Romisen RC-N3 Neutral White to replace it, which has been by and far a much better, more usable light. Too bad it isn't fully waterproof like the TK20 though. EagleTac's P20C2 NW will be my next outdoor light though...

In the past couple of days, not caring about the light anymore, I decided to take it apart. It only took two pairs of channel locks and barely any grunt work to remove the bezel. I found that the heatsinking isn't quite what it should be for a $60 light (at the time of purchase). I think I might put the Q2 emitter in my Romisen RC-G2, and the P2 in the Fenix, since the RC-G2 gets more use!

So now I have an extremely annoying $60 light with major bezel damage, that gets no use...But now it has the ability to focus! I keep telling myself that that's a plus.

Oh...The best part is I now have a sturdy clip for my Opinel #7!!! Thanks Fenix, for the $60 clip for a $9 knife!!!!!!

Is that a good review for a long time owner????

My arguments for TK20 are:

*very reliable performance
*one of the most comfortable holds of all flashlights
*comfortable tint for the eyes and great for outdoor use
*runs with the worlds's most available batteries
*good throw for a AA light

What I miss with it:

*a real low mode (3 modes)
*a smoother beam

I don't understand they who think it's too bulky. A tactical flashlight must not be too thin. Fenix L2D, LD20 and Quark2AA are example of flashlights who are designed for beeing as thin as possible, and not made for a good hold comfort. TK20 is made for the practical use! :thumbsup:

There is no "story", just how I use it. It has been used to break falls, assist for use in handholds, as a counterweight on the end of a tossed handline, rope anchor, speed brake, etc.

Those "uses" are seperate from normal duty as a flashlight, which includes constant exposure to, and often complete immersion in, mud, water, and sand, falls and scrapes against rocks, etc.

Glad to hear this! I bought mine for caving mainly for the warm tint (I get the LED blues from caving with a cold light for too long). Awesome to hear that they're tough enough to take the abuse caving hands out as well. I haven't had mine underground yet, but am looking forward to it.

although it's expected with the release of Fenix LD25... but it's still sad to hear it from horse's mouth that my first warm/neutral tint power LED flashlight is discontinued... so I went to the local distributor today and got myself a bright-yellow-grip TK20... :nana:

in the picture, the grey-grip TK20 with clip is more than 1.5 years and still running strong... :thumbsup: I literally sleep with it now... :devil:

oh... btw... fwiw... I got it at a much lower price than LD25... just fyi... :sssh:

Oh no really? Was this from Fenix? I kind of suspected that out of all the current range, this would be the one that could be discontinued. Have to keep an eye out for sales then.

We have had the TK20 about as long as when they first came out, or shortly after. It is my wife's favorite light and I like it as well, but I have so many other lights that I rarely use the TK20.

Solid, reliable, good natural beam of light, and bright with a good throw. I think it is a winner but I would not carry it. It is a great house light and when we go outdoors camping my wife has it with her or within reach. I never hear it, but my hearing is not the best.

I plan on buying the new SF with two AA's and give that to my wife, it will be interesting if she replaces her TK20 with it. If she doesn't, I will find use for another SF, I'm sure :). I think the TK20 would be a nice gift for any house hold or person, simply because it is a simple sturdy light to have around. A box of those cheap AA's from Costco would keep you going a long time with that light on low.
