Just ordered my TK! Free shipping but it's USPS basic so it should arrive in about 7 to 10 days. Now to get down to finding that Maha MH-C808M and rechargeables. I know I can find all that on ebay. I figure $150.00+/- will get me there. I'll go with Sanyo 2700's or their highest capacity Eneloops (2300s?).

I've called around for an extra battery carrier but haven't had any luck. I have contacted Fenix as well via email and received a response stating the same. But, I will keep trying. There must be some avenue leading towards a spare carrier. If anyone here can assist, PLEASE do so. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If they offered one and it had a nice case to store it in I would want one. Hint...

This is a little self-serving, well a bit more than a little, but if anyone else is interested in finding extra carriers then maybe you too could contact Fenix and request battery carriers be made available for purchase separately. With a case. And at reasonable cost.

Or maybe contact the vendors and have them "pressure" Fenix to that end. Very politely, of course. There is power in numbers and money talks.

Congrats on your new TK40--you're going to love it.

Unless you also need to charge C or D cells, I would go for the Maha MH-C801D instead. It's $20+ cheaper, and it's a *lot* smaller than the MH-C808M, which is a monster. I have both (long story), and the 801D is much easier to deal with because of its smaller size. The UI is the same between the two models.

For cells, the Eneloops are probably the most popular around here. I have also used the 2100 mAH Maha Imedion LSD NiMH's, and have had great luck with them.

Waiting sucks. I bought my TK40 on amazon for $137 & paid $18 for overnight shipping. It was at my door at 5pm the next day for $155 total, which is what most places charge without shipping :O

Great light - don't think you'll be disappointed

SWEET. I hope I never subject my TK to that amount of abuse but it is going to be my go to light at work so...Good to know it can take a beating.

Re: TK40 Here!

The TK arrived yesterday while I was out of town. Got in about an hour ago. Nice surprise.

First of all, this light is nowhere near as big as I imagined it would be. It is a very handy size - (+). Also, nowhere near as heavy as I thought it would be - (+). Have to wait till I pick up some lithiums this evening to check it's performance out.

The UI is a little touchy, for me anyway - (-). The light could have really benefited from a ring style selector combined with the tail "clicky". The ring could have possibly incorporated a lock-out position to alleviate both the parasitic drain and an unintentional on situation. The tail clicky could have actuated the multiple strobe features based on ring position. I would welcome a redesigned end piece incorporating these features.

This is my first impression of the light though based on one hour in hand. Overall, I'm very happy with the light. Till later.

Congrats!

The wife let me play with mine a little, then I had to pack it away to be wrapped up for Christmas. Anyway, I agree on the touchy UI, at least for the first time I picked it up. I was trying to "time" the 1 second hold and kept screwing it up by not holding long enough - thereby turning it off. Then later on I tried just holding down until it switched to the next higher seting and that did the trick. I love the feel of the button, but wish is were a little harder to turn it on.

Congratulations on the new addition. If you're impressed with the TK40 now, wait until you get some good batteries in it and the sun goes down. You'll be blown away by the beam quality. That is, unless you have an HID flashlight, which will easily out throw any LED light. But there is a lot more to a light's beam quality than just how far it can shine and that's where the TK40 really blows me away. I've been spoiled by my TK40 and absolutely nothing on the market today has a better quality beam in my book, aside from the TK30 which has the same head assembly and LED emitter.

Please let us know your thoughts after you get that baby fired up!

Just came back from Lowe's with 16 Energizer Ultimate Lithiums ($40.00!). The first 8 are for goofing off with the light a little bit and the second 8 are strictly for work. I have to get those Sanyos ASAP! I figure about $90.00+/- for the Maha MH-C808M and $60.00+/- for the Sanyos.

Anybody in the U.S. with a reputable source for Sanyos? Remember, no price-gouging allowed here. Discounts however are very welcome.

Costco is selling the Duracell relabeled Sanyo Eneloop batteries (referred to here as "Duraloops") for $18 in a pack with 8 AAs and 2 AAAs. They also have a $5 off coupon that was sent in the mail to all members.

Note that the Duraloops are only available in the stores and not on the Costco website. The ones sold on the website currently are the relabeled Ray-o-Vac cells and are not as good.

I didn't think you were supposed to use primary lithiums in the TK40.

I hope I'm not mistaken but IIRC there was an issue concerning someone placing lithiums in the battery holder incorrectly that caused the batteries to heat up rather fast but nothing else.

I also recall the dealer sites stating for use with alkalines and nimh and the absence of any mention about lithium primaries. Should/would/could there be a problem using these if installed correctly? They are 1.5Vs each as are alkalines.

You are supposed to put them in correctly to avoid anything untoward occurring. :poof::duh2:
