I am thinking of adding a big head throwy mega bright light to the collection and I like the look of the Fenix TK75.
Loving the idea of the extension tubes but not so much of the cost of 12 batteries and having to re charge them all.
4 is ok...just.

Is this the best in its class or should I look at something else?

I suppose it depends on what you consider its class to be?

There are lights that produce more lumens, and, lights that throw farther. There are also lights that throw farther with more lumens.

Is there a budget, and, is there a reason that you would want to make the light really long and heavy to increase run time, as opposed to simply using a short version and some spare cells, and just swapping in freshies when you need them?

Is there a range you need the light to be able to reach to see something/resolve a level of detail at a range? Can you give an example of what you'd like to be able to see at how many meters?

Is there a run time limit, as in an amount of time the light needs to maintain a certain brightness? (The TK75 does dim after ~ 15 minutes or so as a means of helping to prevent overheating if used on max output too long, etc)

I've had one for about 6 months now as my throw light at work. Very impressive torch, the throw and pure volume of light it puts out is outstanding. I don't like the switching system and would like to see the switches recessed or protected from accidental activation some way.

Ok the budget is not set in stone but is around this price or about £150
Not sure if more lumens will be much more visible but a good powerful throw that lights up a large area is important.
I could use a short version but would prefer a long run time which is why I thought of the ext tubes on the 75. I didn't know it dims after 15 mins.
I do have a portable 5000000 candle search light but that is an amateurs light from a DIY store, not really a proper grown ups light. Though it keeps its charge for months and is brighter than all my lounge lights on together.

Not sure how many meters I want to see. If I am in a field and its dark, I don't really care how far that distant tree is, I just want to show off that I can light it up.
Likewise in a situation where i need a light, I am not going to get a tape measure out and count the distance.

OK I think on reflection I want a long bright throwy light with a long run time and reaches far and wide :)

I don't own a tk75 but I want one, bang for buck it seems the best throw/flood and a dam good looking light too.
imo it seems excellent value at just over £110 .

TK75 is the chosen one for me. I have many flashlights in high output/high spotlght category: X6 Marauder, RC40, SR95S UT, SR96, BK-FA02, BK-Fa01, MX25L2 Turbo SBT-70... but TK75 (XM-L2 edition) is the perfect choice for flood/throw/dimensions/autonomy/price.

There you go. From someone who has them all... Thanks AbbyY.

The XM-L2 version steps down after 15 mins, XM-L after 20 mins. It's a time based controller so you can "restart" it to turbo mode any time. I have two extenders (max recommended) which increase autonomy but the stpdown timer remains the same (15 minutes for me).

It steps down after 20 minutes but you can STEP UP again and continue that for the duration of the battery charge like I do most times.

New/fresh genuine Panasonic 3400 mAh cells will get about 65 MINUTES on Turbo. With one ext. kit I tested it at 2h 54 min. on turbo!

I have had the light a year, you won't be disappointed!

+1 Easier to do this than edit my first post!!

I do not own as many high powered torches as AbbyY. I own Four[4] One of which is a modded torch the OSTS TN31mb w/ 470Kcd! The TK75 is still my favorite for the same reasons he mentioned!:)

Hi: I noticed that when I went looking for a Fenix TK-75,I found two different sites stating maximum outputs, one being 2600 max lumens and the other being 2900 lumens, both sites listed the leds as being the Cree XM-L2. Both Canadian sites. Is one site using "old" figures? Thanks,HB
*EDIT* Apparantly one site was using figures (2600) from last years model. The 2014 model uses 2900 max output. HB

the new model is 2900 lumens and uses the XML-L2 versus the older model that uses the XML at 2600 lumens. Either is an excellent light.

Just so you know, the "5,000,000 candlepower" search light is NOT producing anywhere NEAR that, as in not even the right order of magnitude. Those lights are so over rated in their ads that its ridiculous. (About like a Yugo advertised as having a top speed of 1,000 mph)

On the plus side, the TK75 should blow that light away...so, you'd be happy with it.

:D
