I have both the TM26 and the X6. Different lights suited to different tasks.
For compact flood (with decent throw out to a couple hundred yards), the TM26 is hard to beat (ESPECIALLY with the IS $195 sale price!). It's really small for the wall of light it's capable of throwing. The UI and modes are great as is the OLED display that displays all sorts of things from the light's internal temp to remaining runtime estimates (the estimates are conservative, so if it says 4 hours in a particular mode, it'll usually run 10-25% longer than that).
The X6 on the other hand throws much better (AND puts put more overall light at 5000 lumens vs 3800 lumens for the new XM-L2 TM26). The X6 with it's separate battery pack is significantly bulkier than the TM26 (which is slightly taller than a beer can, but narrower around the body, and pretty close in diameter about the head). With the X6's battery pack on your belt though, the X6 itself is pretty light. Transporting the X6 though, takes up a fair bit more space. If you carry just the light, the battery pack and the wall charger, the wall charger is like a small PC monitor power brick. There's also the shoulder strap (makes the light even more comfortable to carry for extended use). All that takes up space. If you carry it in the X6 case (quite a nice case I might add), it all fits neatly, but takes up more room.
In contrast, the TM26 in its holster is much smaller, and the wall adapter plug (the TM26 has a built in charger) is quite a bit smaller than the X6's power brick.
Now as far as utility goes:
TM26
Pros:
- Small size. (did I mention how small this thing is for the output? :D ). I can wear the light on my belt without problem.
- Nice flood for medium range lighting. It'll light up an average 100'x50' backyard very well.
- Decent throw for its size at 43,000cd, but not up to the real throwers
- 5 brightness modes (XM-L2 version goes 3lm, 150lm, 600lm, 1850lm, 3800lm)
Cons:
- Will step down from the 3800lm Maximum to the 1850lm mode within a few minutes (4-5 minutes @ 70f) unless ambient temps are cold (below 40-50f)
- built-in charger will not fully charge batteries. Tends to stop below 4.10v
Olight X6
Pros:
- Lots of light output at 5000lm
- Throws much better than the TM26 at ~102,000cd
- Thermal regulation produces a gradual output decline, which is less obvious than the TM26. Will definitely put out more light for the duration than the TM26 (i.e. if you use both in Maximum mode, the X6 will put out more light at turn on AND throw further at the same ambient temp, then the TM26 will step down and drop the light output even lower in comparison).
- Separate battery packs means you can buy spares and keep them handy for extended usage by swapping them.
- has the ability to run straight off a/c power with a separate adapter (i.e. no battery runtime limit) for non-mobile use. Although there still is no car power adapter available (that I know of), you can kludge it by plugging a 12v-120v inverter in a CL socket and plug the a/c adapter into that to power it off the vehicle's electrical power.
Cons:
- Has a separate battery pack. Bring a small flashlight with you as connecting the battery pack to the X6 with its little proprietary connector can be a royal pain in the dark.
- Only 3 brightness modes. 150lm, 1200lm, 5000lm
- Bulkier than the TM26 to carry, even bulkier to transport the entire kit.
I also wanted to mention that the X6's utility can be improved for those willing to mod a $3xx light (MSRP $599). I was never a fan of the proprietary connector from the get go, but by replacing the connectors with Deutsche connectors, it made sightless connections much easier (i.e. where before, I needed to look at the connector ends to align them properly before mating them, the Deutsche connectors can be oriented by feel and are quick click as opposed to screw-in connectors). Once you replace the connector on the X6 itself, as well as the battery pack and a/c adapter, you can now also use a 12v car Cigarette Lighter Adapter cable and replace the end with a Deutsche connector and use the X6 as a vehicle mounted light plugged into a CL socket. You can then also get alligator type battery attachment leads, and add Deutsche connectors on the end allowing the X6 to be powered off any 12v vehicle battery. You can also get additional leads for a GoalZero battery pack so you can cut the other end to splice a Deutsche connector allowing you to run the X6 off the GZ battery pack's 12v outlet.
IMO, these mods vastly improve the X6's utility and versatility. YMMV of course, and as a disclaimer, anyone attempting to modify any item from its original configuration assumes responsibility for their own actions, so if anyone destroys their X6 modding it and using it in this way (or electrocutes themselves or has any other mishap), I'm not responsible.
Now I don't own an RC40 but here are my thoughts in comparison:
RC40
Pros:
- Throws better than the TM26 and X6 at 126,000cd
- battery pack means you can buy and carry spares which are a little easier to keep track of than loose 18650's
- Built-in charger. (a/c has a power brick similar to the X6. Includes car charger where the TM26 and X6 don't)
- 5 brightness modes (35lm, 150lm, 550lm, 1500lm, 3500lm)
- excellent thermal management allows the light to run at Maximum at 70f without problem
Cons:
- War club form factor. Where the TM26 has a holster and can be worn on my belt, the X6 and RC40 are going to need to be handheld, or carried via shoulder strap (although as the GG video shows, you can hook the X6 handle in your pocket LOL)
As you can see, each light has different areas in which it shines (pun intended), so which light works best for your purposes depends entirely on your preferences/needs/usage. And to complicate matters more, you can toss in the Tk75 and Supbeam X40 etc.
