on the way home, i noticed the entire neighborhood was all dark,
not even the streetlights were on.

and i beamed with glee because of all the flashlights i have on me and in my stash at home.

on me: a primary Surefire E2DL, secondary Novatac 120T, and Fenix stainless steel ld01 in my jacket.

As soon as i got home, the E2DL lit the way to my room and i turned on the Rayovac Sportsman Xtreme lantern. I removed the lantern top and hanging it upside down by the hook to provide area lighting in the kitchen.

Then I went to the water closet and used the E2DL tailstand to look where I was going.

And finally, I sport the Petzl XP headlamp to light up whatever i cook for dinner outside (alcohol stove or charcoal grill).

Kinda bummed that it will be daylight in around 8 hours. :mecry:

ps: typing all this on a netbook connected via a evdo modem.

Argh...i can never decide which lights to use either. I generally just keep changing

use em all!

I had an outage for over 4 days and had too many lights. I could have outlasted a month of no light but would have gone crazy without tv or internet or a hair dryer etc. I was considering a generator because of forced air heating here.

Nice EDC! Looks like you were well prepared for the blackout.

Kudos to all of those unlucky enough to be out of power tonight who are prepared well enough to have provided themselves and their familys with enough options that in the tough times they face that they still may make some choices on their own and not just be pushed along with the tide of unfortunate events. That is good news.

You are the stuff that good neighbors are made of. That may sound corny but it's not meant to.

Any good news or "aw shucks" to share on the Rayovac Sportsman Extreme lantern? I have one coming over from Amazon and should arrive any time but wondering what is the best way to use an LED lantern. The only other lantern that I have is a fluorescent tube GE Steelbeam lantern.

Stay safe!

As much as I like the the Surefire E2DL, the Rayovac lantern was the most useful in the in kitchen. Using the bottom clip, i hung it from the lighting fixture in the kitchen. It was super bright and flooded the kitchen table. Even at the low setting, i wished for something lower.

Initially I used enerloops AAs i got at costco to power it up (I used those included AA to D adapters). But I had a bunch of brand new D batteries lying around unused because I switched over to CR123 sizes for the Novatac and Surefire.

The flood is very nice, very soft shadows. I will buy some more of these lanterns and give to my buddies along the earthquake fault line.

Mahalo,

Hehe. Yeah, i try to get my family and friends into preparedness. I usually give them stuff over time. My aunt in my neighborhood should have adequate lighting because I gave her a rarely used MiniMag AA LED light and a Photon. I gave her the upgraded lighting gear after I saw her existing flashlight. It was some 2D plastic incad type labeled Orchards. I wish I could give more stuff away because flashlights are so cool to have around.
