Too much light!

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

I used to EDC a P3D-RB100. I recently switched to a Novatac 120P and a Nitecore D10. I love the options each provides as well as the extreme lows of both. I do however miss the footprint of the P3D. Give me the features of the 120P (use of rechargables, long runtime and programmable) in a P3D size and I'll buy one!

+2 for the Photon Freedom Micro.

I love this light.

You won't regret getting one of these, trust me.

I was constantly after brighter and brighter pocket lights, but once I got this little beauty I was cured.

The interface is perfect on this light.

The best thing is that you can turn it on super low with no cycling through brighter modes.

It's plastic, so that you can mouth hold it easily.

It weighs almost nothing.

The high has a surprisingly useful amount of light.

I ran into the same problem ~3 years ago with an L0P SE the low of which is 5 lumens. So an E01 will still be too bright.
I got this reply when I commented about it.

Last year I went to a concert at Copps Colosseum. I was in an aisle seat on the top row. Someone came through the curtains behind and was having trouble negotiating the steps. The usher was nowhere in sight. So I grabbed my Minimak (SSC-P4 DD with a 14500 Fraen optic) and shone it down the stairs. Lit up the stairs all the way to the bottom and some 3 columns of seats on each side. People turned around to see where the light was coming from. OOPS! Didn't realize one little LED can be that bright when there is little light pollution.
I used my L0D CE on low after. The usher never showed up.

Wow! I can just imagine, during the ending of, say, Mahler 9, and this 200+ lumen flashlight comes on in the back of the audience -- just totally ruins what they worked all night to get to!

Seriously, if you're going to recital halls, then I'll assume you're into music or drama. Just go to the back of the stage and find a gel for a spotlight/ceiling light that is "used up". Simply cut a piece and tape it over the end of your flashlight. Find a pretty dark red one and it should do just about what you need -- especially if you're using something with a decent low setting as well.

Yeah, I think this situation requires a very low power red led light, like the photon.

No, these are the people i'd like to take out back and shoot, being a musician myself. Was just commenting that the 10 lumens low was way too much. Thanks for all the great suggestions, I need to pick up something else with a red LED, most likely a photon freedom, or maybe another PEAK.

the nice thing about the peak is that it also looks really pretty in brass ;-)

So I was setting in a dark recital hall last night trying to read some program notes. I pulled out my P3D and clicked it on only to instantly blind myself and ruin my night vision. So, i'll probably grab a fenix E01 for my keychain for that from now on. However it's 10 lumens may not be much better, as it's rated the same as the P3D's low, but i'm guessing it will be less intense and more floody.

Anyway, i'ma grab the E01 regardless, because it's a nice keychain light, but does anyone have suggestions for something with an extremely low low to either replace my P3D as my EDC or something small to carry on a keychain to complement it?

Christmass time is commin up soon, so i'm due for atleast one new light from the parents!

For situations like these, I usually rely on the small, inexpensive Innova key chain LED's.

The new LiteFlux LF3 XT low setting is something like .2%. This should work nicely for low level lighting needs, wouldn't it?
