First off, two of the cells register 0 volts as in compeletly dead. Are these of any value to anyone or should they promptly be thrown away? Two, I have the 4 other cells at around 3.5 volts each, I am now charging these at the very slow rate of 150ma, is this the right thing to do? Thirdly, could I run the good cells in a 3s1p config in the laptop vs the 3s2p config in there before with reduced runtime, or will I tax the cells too far?

Hello D-Dog,

Recycle the 0 volt cells.

Li-Ion cells are only good for around 2C maximum. If you are pulling less than that, there should be no problems other than reduced runtime.

I'd rather get two new cells (or even buy all six new, that would be safer and still cheaper than a new battery pack). As long as you get cells with the same capacity, you're on the safe side.
However it's most likely that some electronics in the pack are dead, most probably it's the fuse. these fuses are hard to obtain, as they consist of 1 or 2 bridges made of an alloy with a low melting point which are heated by the actual "high" current flowing through a tiny heating element underneath these bridges. all within a small SMD component.
you might short it, but you will live in constant fear.

it all depends on YOU. remember, you get third-party battery packs for most models on eBay for 50$+.
