torch using \'projector downlight\' ?

hi-i was talking to a guy in jaycar in perth today and he mentioned that some people he know have made torches using halogen downlights and batteries, but he also mentioned they also made very bright torches using 100w+ projector lights-anyone here done this ?

Re: torch using \'projector downlight\' ?

i havent heard of anyone doing it but it would be a little difficult to get enough voltage to the lamp to power it properly - a 32v 150W Lamp for a swimming pool light would be interesting if you could get it into a good reflector - hmm might have to try and mod my thor to do that.

by the way - when you were in jaycar did you see the thor10mcp spotlights ?

hi-yes i saw the the thor 10mcp -big ehh ??
one of the guys there-does diving he mentioned that he does torch modding himself-he even bought one of the lathes they have on sale-1. he made a diving torch using a projector light(from that lamp replacements shop in o'connor)-way brighter than the light cannons !
2. he also made a pack using 10x D cells-rechargable for the thor-lighter and lots brighter !
3. the luxeon torches there are interesting

Yes, the "Mule" prototype, the "Aurora" prototype and FPNinja's prototype light all use projector type bulbs, generally of the 12 volt variety.
