Consider reducing sensitivity of the Bounce feature if your light is going to red while not reflecting off of something close. I put white electrical tape in the bottom of my flashlight holsters to get enough reflection for the Bounce feature to activate, at the level of sensitivity I use.

Have you tried the battery gauge? Must be so handy for users!

And the tint? I'm sure it is great in snow.

I just have not spent enough with the bounce setting and it may not work with the same setting for 1 and 2 cell configurations. At the moment I am not concerned.

The tint on my light is very nice. I would describe it as white toward the yellow end. Definitely not angry blue or green. Mine is an XPL.

The battery meter is a cool feature. I find it useful. I was just playing with the light in the backyard and I noticed the step down during continuous use as I have stretch enabled.

I am very pleased so far.

Paskal, batteries can be very confusing so I will state my understanding and experience. IMR is a battery chemistry which provides the high drain needed for this drop in. I have used AW IMR cells and efest purple IMR cells. I have had good luck with both brands and both can be purchased on Amazon. Hope that helps.

It really depends what you intend to do..

For single cell use, you want the highest capacity with good high current handling characteristics. I'd go for something IMR or hybrid for single 18650 use as you want the most current with least voltage sag. 5 amps will cause a fair sag on lesser quality cells so you will notice less light coming out for less time. I only have an E2E so my choice in 18650 is limited to smaller diameter cells - so far all I can fit is LG HG2 cells which provide ample output and runtime for my needs. You may find a cell has better capacity or current handling characteristics but will need to do some research..

For two 18650s in series however, your choices are a bit more diverse, the driver will only pull like 3-4 amps off two cells so you could easily get away with a pair of Panasonic/Sanyo NCR18650GA. You could arguably use this cell for single cell use but some people prefer the claimed higher maximum discharge of something like a Samsung 25R or Sony VTC5 etc at the expense of a good chunk of runtime.

I literally spent hours figuring out which cell to go for, in the end it was mainly dictated by the battery tube so your options may take longer to filter through. I found the e-cig forums pretty invaluable for info as they seem to put a LOT more strain on their cells than we do. We think we're big time rocking a sub 10A light. Those guys are pumping over 20A through a device designed to be used within inches of ones' face..

Incorrect statement about 2x 18650. The v5/371 LE can pull 5-6 amps from two cells if AB mode is selected and the battery gets low. So, if you want to pull 17W from one cell and you programmed AB mode with 2 cell, please make sure your batteries rated to handle at least 6 amps.

What's this AB mode of which you speak? Are you referring to an absence of battery stretch?

I think AB is afterburner or level 33, the highest output level with 2 cells.

Paskal, an 18650 IMR with 25A discharge rating should be fine with this drop in. What brand?

It houses an older V4 Triple XP-E2, and to my eyes it seems to throw further than my triple XP-L E1E. Two things came to mind. Firstly, how would I even know if the light I have has XP-L emitters in it as opposed to say Nichia, and secondly (and more importantly for this thread) if the XP-E2 does indeed throw further, are there any plans to do a V5 XP-E2 drop in?

xtar XTVTC4 actually i have few bought for vape. thats why ask in case it can be use or not

I have had good luck with XTAR products. From the reviews I have read in the CPF battery section others agree. A quick search did not reveal any XTAR battery explosion threads. So all signs are looking toward these as good cells.

The only additional comment that I have is the flat top of the cell as opposed to a button top. In one of my hosts when using the ZeroResShorty (ZRS) instead of a switch, the spring on the drop in was not long enough to operate the drop in, but if it works in your host I would say go ahead and light up the dark.

XPE throws further due to the smaller die, that's no big surprise at all. Even with the re-dome, XPL is a way bigger die, therefore throw dimishes compared to XPE.

Thats certainly what I'm seeing. I've always been a fan of the XPE based triples over the XPG ones for this reason. I wasn't sure if the XPL ones would be able to match the throw of the XOE ones through brute force of output alone.

Cheers. :twothumbs

I missed out on the GITD lights they did like the one in your avatar, but I was able to pick this up from one of their last Z2 custom runs. I have an Oveready bored Z2 old logo with the standard coating from them as well, but I prefer to use this one as that coating is as hard as nails, and it has that stealth look to it.

Look'n good!

The way I tell 219 from XPL is the shape. Nichia tends to make round looking dies while XPL looks very square because there is no dome. Slowly rotate the head and even through the optics (at an angle) in a fully installed in a light - you can see the corners on the XPL. 219 doesnt show corners. XPL corners:

XPL is our lumen specialist
219 is our color specialist
We do want a throw specialist but have not yet selected one.

We could do XPE2 but its a bit long in the tooth. If we can find something that handles more power than the cree, for example, we won't have to limit power as much.

The XP-L is way more of a room lighter comparing my V5 E head. I much prefer the beam profile of my V4 XP-E2 drop in.

For me this would be very cool. I'd love to have a V5 with the XP-E2 (or XP-E2 beam profile) option.

Thanks for that.

I would suggest the the new Golden Dragon emitter like the one used in Surrfire's eb1 as an option, but I know how you guys don't like ugly green tints.

At 0.18 lumens I can actually look at the emitters while they are on. Has anyone else noticed that one of the emitters seems brighter than the others? I can only see this on level 1 and it is not apparent in the projected beam even when white wall hunting. Just curious.

I still love this light. 0.18 to nearly 3500 lumens in the same light is impressive. I also like the usefulness of the red emitter. Thanks Oveready.
