Trilight-3 on 123\'s, but not for long

Tried my Trilight-3 in a Mag 2C with 3 C123's. It started out very nice and bright, but within 10 minutes was noticably dimmer. After 15 minutes of on/off (mostly on) use, I noticed the handle seemed warm so I checked the batteries. Whoa - too hot to handle.

Does anyone know if 2 Pilas whould handle this load?

The internal resistance of the C123's would be noticeable at those high current demands plus the capacity of the cell
is not as great as the C and D cells, I have always been curious about this myself, I am not to sure about Pilas
as I think that it also depends mainly on the amount of internal resistance, great testing
