True confessions! (List your bad flashlight habits)

Help Support Candle Power:

I tend to use mismatched cells in my cheaper lights, to conserve batteries.

Oh and also these lights have passed my low-power water jet chamber of cleaning:
E01
X5
Coleman 2aa max
minimag
P2D
LD01

My worst habit is taking 30+ flashlights camping and hauling all of them in a duffel bag. They get a little scratched rubbing against each other, which is no big deal, but what is really bad is when one gets bumped somehow and turns on in the bag. Then I pull it out and the batteries are dead. Workin' on a fix for that.

I occasionally aim my P3D at my face and turn it on, just to see if it's still bright enough to hurt.

It is. :ohgeez:

:hahaha: :whoopin:

In all seriousness, don't do that with a laser. :tsk:

For some reason I had it in my head that lube wouldn't help much on newer lights in great shape but then I tried it and wow what I difference. I certainly feel alot better about constantly changing my Solarforce L2 configuration when the connections feel so smooth.

I check the Malkoff site easily 20x per day to see if M30W's are available yet. I guess that's obsession, which is bad for some reason.:help:

Sometimes I point my LED lights (Surefires and Fenix) to my own eye, just to see if they´re strong enough... or some fool excuse like that, and always got blinded by 10 minutes, seeing those dark spots...

:green:

I tend to fall asleep with a flashlight at my side, then it usually jams me in the side or back all night long. I realize its probably not good for the cells to be that warm for so long, but it still happens.

How about a pelican case with foam inserts for light carry?

hmm new one. i took tk11 to sauna today.

hah. the ceiling bulb went out and didnt bother go and change.. so torture test to fenix.

steamroom didnt kill it.

but no. i still dont have any bad habits with my lights.

seeing the beam in steam, fog, smoke is too cool! :hitit:

I use my flashlights as a light source even at home. I keep the normal lights turned off and wander about with flashlights.

Not the act of a sane man! Earth hour? Everyday is earth hour at my place.

x2. In california its a perfectly sane thing to do. During hot summer months the state needs to purchase electricity from neighboring states who are willing to sell. Every 60watt bulb thats turned off can make a difference at the end of the day.

One light in particular a HD Husky I use instead of room-lights. Its a great tail standing design that can ceiling bounce from anywhere... nightstand, PC table, toilet...etc... I cycle through 18650 cells as they deplete, about 1-2 cells per evening. Nothing bad about that, except that I direct drive a P4 or Q2 XR-E... wide open throttle, no DC regulation or current limiting resistor. The light gets very warm after 7-8 minutes and I just keep cooking it. When the LED eventually goes :poof: I'll mod it with a Q5 and a 3.7V DC board. Till' then I'm going to continue to torch the thing. So far its going strong after 3-4 months of abuse.

Actually I dont think dry O-rings is the worst thing you can do. In Iraq, dust storms can wipe out gear in a heartbeat,... grind moving parts to a seizing halt. The last thing you'd want is sand clinging to vital engine parts in your light.
