Hi,
Despite previous problems with my UK 2AAAs, I decided to try again. I like the form factor and simplicity and I want a small plastic LED and/or incandescent light that uses old fashioned tubular batteries.
I purchased the safety rated incandescent model. My previous models were essentially identical, but they did not have the safety rating. So far, so good. I have used the xenon lamp assembly as well as the LED from my other models and have not experienced any of the previous issues.
As a reminder, in the past, there appeared to be some peculiar short that heated up the batteries. The rear of the battery compartment became extremely hot. Other individuals reported similar problems. I have not experienced that with this model SO FAR.
I like this model in both the incandescent form and the LED form, so I will probably use both. I realize that the safety rating no longer applies when I use the LED. It should be noted that all the evidence pointed to a shorting problem in the wiring. This was not an issue of venting or similar, since the result was the same for alkalines, rechargables, and lithium AAAs.
Thanks,
Bob
