My Ultra G died. First it was intermittent, fixed by crimping back of head. Worked for a while the intermittent again. More crimping. And again. Now no more room for crimping.

Wonder what's inside. Hmmm, what can I jam inside...

Re: Ultra G RIP

I had the exact same thing happen -- see this thread. CountyComm saw the thread and offered to replace it -- which they did quickly and cheerfully. Kudos to them! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Not sure why it happened or what went wrong, but CC should take care of you.

Re: Ultra G RIP

Took it apart. It came apart too easily. The LED and circuit board fell out as I was turning off the crimp area on the lathe. The head only had a tiny drop of resin in it, not touching either the LED nor circuit board. Board had resin spread from the inductor around half of the edge. Crud from my pocket etc.got past the LED and corroded the remaining ground contact around the edge of the board. As the board had no support in the center repeated operation broke the through-hole ground contact (also the LED Neg) opening the ground contact from the back of the board. Resulting in intermittant and finally no operation. Cleaned up, soldered through-hole and poked the board back in.. Worked fine. While I have it apart I'll see if I can squeeze a BadBoy and an LS in without totally destroying anything.

I hope when I get my Flu shot next week I don't get whoever filled that head!!

Re: Ultra G RIP

In a way your lucky, I totally destroyed an Ultra-G head trying to get the Led and circuitry out of it [I was planning to try a sandwich mod, but as it turned out, the body won't hold a CR123 anyway].
