Forgive me for getting a little "focused" on Ultras tonight, but one query leads to another. Craig at the LED Museum, in his Ultra review, tests the Ultra G as having an almost 25% greater output than the plain old Ultra. I own both, and confess that I can't see any difference, given identical batteries.

Anyone else tested this, observed any difference, or otherwise have any opinion/info. on this?

Thanks.

My ultra is noticably dimmer than my ultra-g, even with lithium in the ultra and plain old NiMh in the ultr-G. I believe you lucked out with the ultra, since both of my ultras have better LEd's than my ultra.

What 270winchester said, plus, just going by eyeballs, it's pretty hard to detect a 25% diff., especially w/ just a dim light to begin with. You really need a light-meter to quantify this, as Craig uses.

My u's and g's power is the exact opposite of winn. the CMG has more smoothness, a softer hot spot, but light's up a room and throw wise better. I though it could be a lith batt issue but it's the same. the G has a very noticable hot spot with a ring around it, but is just a wee bit dimmer. I guess i dcould have got a real burner of a CMG, since i too have heard the "G"'s usually have a brighter beam, better throw, and more centered LED (my CMG is well centered, as is my G's)
BTW anyone know where to get a lanyard like the one that came with the CMG? same length and coupling? I don't want to have to buy the stuff from berkley point, i want one already built. VDG

I have three standard Infinity Ultras and one of them is brighter than the other two. All with 100% fresh off the charger NiMHs or Lithiums. Some folks report their Ultra Gs being brighter than their regular Ultras, but I think that regardless of how the Gs were (or were NOT) selected, there is still a luck of the draw.

I have a few of each and I can't tell any difference. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif
