I've had the UltraStinger for a couple of days now. I really like this light. It's my first experience with a rechargable light. I already have it mounted in the kitchen, so now when I hear those bumps-in-the-night, it will be the US that I grab.

Given the length of the light, it looks like the Stinger HP is the closest in likeness to the US, although with less output and shorter in length (which is what I'm after). Can I use the same Fast Charger that I'm using for the US with the HP? Also with this Fast Charger, I thought after some time, the flashing RED light was supposed to go out totally. It started as solid RED and has been blicking ever since.

Is there any reason not to get an HP?

Hey nascar,

From what Brightguy says on their web site, the Fast Charger is for all of the Stinger family. It's part #STR22665, so if you already have that part, you only need to buy the bare Stinger HP.

My picture thread from a little while back ( http://www.candlepowerforums.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=002826 ) has a comparision shot between the Ultrastinger and Stinger XT/HP and Mag 3D. The head's basically the same between the lights, but only 3 sub C cells are in the HP vs the US's 5 cells.

In terms of brightness, the US is certainly a bit brighter, but the HP is darn good and still blows away the 3D Mag.

I had the same question, and here's the answer from Streamlight:
"Part: 22665 is required to charge an Ultra Stinger with the fast
charging cradle. Part 22311 will do the job for a Poy Stinger with
fast
charge cradle."

The part number refers to the wallwart adaptor, not the actual charging cradle.

I have used the US fast charger with a regular Stinger without a problem, but the input voltage into the Stinger is a bit too high.

Yup, I got confused by the Brightguy description by not reading it throughly. The same charge cradle is used for all Stinger lights, but there are 2 different wall warts (charge cords as Brightguy calls them) just as dano says.

Sorry for the confusion.

Uh-0h. I've had a regular stinger for several years, a poly (my wife's really) for maybe 2 years. When I bought a US I bought the light only, no charger. Do I need to purchase a seperate charger cord for AC and DC?

[edit: Now using dano's AC fast charge part number 22311 instead of unknown for Stinger/Stinger HP fast charge AC charge cords.]

I'm wondering if the bulb for the US would physically fit in an HP. I was thinking of putting 5 1/2 sub C NIMH batteries into a Stinger HP and getting the power of an US in a smaller package.

Are you thinking of using a Sub-c, then only three fit. I've never heard of a 1/2 SUB-C, which would fit, but a spacer may be needed to keep the voltage at 6V, and not overdriving the bulb(I'm assuming that two 1/2 sub-c's equal one sub-c).

What's the capacity of a 1/2 SUB-C?

UPDATE::

The US bulb will fit perfectly into a HP...

I located 1/2 SUB-C's NiCds rated at 1300MAH. I emailed a few people, to see if such a beast can be constructed...

Hee hee... you know, dano... 1300mAH from a 1/2 sub C cell is amazing. I remember when the regular sub C was just 1200mAH! How energy densities have changed.

You know.. I bet I could just drop in 6 1/2 sub C cells into a XT/HP without worrying about making that special top battery contact. I mean, the switch is at the bottom which requires an exposed negative so the cells could be kept separate just like a regular flashlight. Hmmmm....

First, I bet you could stick 6 1/2sub-c's into a XT/XT-HP, but the voltage would be a bit high, and the bulb may blow.

Second, Sean, you hijacked the thread! J/K, I have both, what kind of pics do you want: Beams (kinda tough) or side by side shots?

ledagent, that seems like a question that will never get answered...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I'm starting to think so too. The Tigerlight blatantly says that it can "out-shine" the magcharger AND the Ultrastinger right on its packaging. Outshine and out-reach are two very different things, and this is what i'd like to know and clarify.
